The Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) was developed by Fred Davis in 1986 and

was based on the Theory of Reasoned Action propounded by Martin Fishbein and Icek Azjen in

1967, which deals more specifically with the prediction of the acceptability of an information

system. TAM is an information systems theory developed to identify how individuals begin to

accept and use technological advancements, and within health care provides a better

understanding of clinician technology acceptance, informing health care organizations about

barriers to embracing new technologies (Edutech Wiki, 2021).

As demonstrated in the Theory of Reasoned Action by Fred Davis, the Technology

Acceptance Model postulates that the use of an information system is determined by the

behavioral intention, but on the other hand, that the behavioral intention is determined by the

person’s attitude towards the use of the system and also by his perception of its utility.

According to Davis, the attitude of an individual is not the only factor that determines his use of

a system, but is also based on the impact which it may have on his performance (Edutech Wiki,

2021).

Consequently, the present study is conducted to identify the level of acceptability of the

respondents towards usage of telehealth. For this purpose, the technology acceptance model can

help the researcher, nursing academe, nursing practice and policy makers in designing,

implementing and evaluating telehealth services that can cater more people as well as be able to

raise awareness and acceptance of people to these services.

By incorporating the Technology Acceptance Model in this study, the perceived usage of

telehealth, as well as its utility and effectiveness, is an important component in increasing the

number of people who accept, participate in, or use telehealth services.
