Chapter III

SUMMARY, CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATION

This chapter presents and summarizes the findings, conclusions and recommendations

considered by the researcher.

Summary

This study entitled “Acceptability of Telealth among Biguenos” was intended to

determine the level of acceptability of the Biguenos to telehealth. Furthermore, it also tried to

establish the correlation between the level of acceptability of the respondents and their socio-

demographic profile.

Specifically it sought to determine the following: (1) the socio- demographic profile of

the respondents like age, sex, educational attainment, monthly income, place of residence,

devices owned, and internet connection; (2) the level of acceptability to telehealth; and (3) the

significant relationship between the socio- demographic profile of the respondents and level of

acceptability to telehealth.

This study utilized descriptive- correlational method of research. Purposive sampling

among the people of selected barangays of Vigan City was applied in determining the

respondents of this study. The number of respondents was decided using the Cochran’s formula

and was consulted by a statistician. This study covered a total of three-hundred fifty six (356)

respondents from the nine selected barangays of Vigan City, Ilocos Sur. A questionnaire

checklist was used to gather the needed information. This was content validated by healthcare

providers who facilitated teleconsultation. Frequency and percentage, mean and simple

correlation analysis were used to treat and interpret the data gathered.
Findings
1. Profile of the respondents.

On Age. Based on the findings presented, a great percentage of the respondents

(166 or 46.6%) belong to the age range of 18-39 years old.

On Sex. The majority of the respondents (240 or 67.4%) are females.

On Educational Attainment. A great number of respondents (100 or 28.1%) are

college graduates.

On Household Monthly Income. Majority of the respondents, two hundred

(56.2%) income ranges below Php 5,001.

On Place of Residence. A great number (157 or 44.1%) of the respondents are

residing in Western Vigan barangays

On Devices Owned. Most of the respondents (344 or 96.6%) owns a smartphone.

On Internet Connection. Majority of the respondents with a total of one hundred

ninety-six (55.1%) have a stable internet connection.

2. Level of Acceptability of respondents towards telehealth services

Overall, the level of acceptability of the respondents towards telehealth is 3.23 which

indicates an “Acceptable” on the overall descriptive rating.

3. Relationship between the profile of the respondents and the level of acceptability

The monthly income yielded the highest correlation coefficient (-.158) in relationship to

the level of acceptability of telehealth.


Conclusions
Based on the salient findings of the study, the following conclusions were drawn:

1. It was noticed that majority of the respondents were female and a great number of them

are from the age group of 18- 39 years old. In terms of educational attainment, a great

number of respondents were college graduates. The majority of the respondents, income

ranges below Php 5,000. A great percentage of the respondents are residing in Western

Vigan barangays. Most of the respondents owns a smartphone. Also, majority of the

respondents have a stable internet connection.

2. Overall, the level of acceptability of the respondents towards telehealth indicates an

“Acceptable” on the overall descriptive rating.

3. The monthly income yielded the highest correlation coefficient in relationship to the level

of acceptability of telehealth.

Recommendations
Based on the findings and conclusion of the study, the following recommendations are

forwarded:

1. Information dissemination should be conducted to promote awareness of the benefits and

services offered by telehealth.

2. The Rural Health Unit personnel and administration should offer daily teleconsultations

to the residents of Vigan City.

3. A similar study should be conducted with a larger scope to make the findings of this study

more conclusive.
4. The results of the study should be considered in future extension programs of the

University of Northern Philippines particularly the College of Nursing. Radio and television

can be a good venue for information dissemination. Fliers and leaflets should be made and

distributed to the residents of Bantay, Ilocos Sur.
