Intro

This is gonna be a moderate length fanfic cause i saw a video on instagram that made me really
inspired (linked below) this fanfic will basically be a retelling of swan lake where soobin is odette

~Chapter one~

Soobin normally doesn't walk this far from home but seeing as his mother wasn't at home right
now it means he's probably safe from his mother collapsing from a heart attack. This gave him a
once in a blue moon opportunity to travel through the woods to the lake that resided in them. As he
walked slowly through the woods enjoying his solitude he noticed the morning dew on the leaves
and grass as well as the beautiful scents of the morning.

He stopped in his tracks when sun rays hit his face through the tree leaves;squinting for a moment
but soon closing his eyes to bask in it. After his face had warmed a bit he decided to continue his
journey to the lake. The lake wasn't far from his home but was just far enough where he could no
longer hear the bustling of his small village. Not having to hear noisy villagers and rattling horse
drawn carts for even a moment filled soobin with a joy he could not describe. When he reached the
lake he sat by its edge looking out over it and taking a deep breathe. "As beautiful as always" he
says as he lets out his breathe.

As he's about to close his eyes something catches his attention on the other side of the lake. He
focuses his sight and sees that its a young woman with a crossbow. Shes looking around curiously
with her crossbow loaded. She looks a bit lost so Soobin takes it upon himself to see if she needs
help. Soobin isn't one for small talk but he figures he knows the area well enough he could
probably point her in the right direction. He stands up and wipes his butt off and starts in the
direction of the young lady. She hadn't seemed to notice him yet because she was looking off to her
left as Soobin came up from her right.

Soobin remembers its probably not the brightest idea to startle someone with a loaded crossbow so
he tries to make his presence known. "Uhm e-excuse me miss...are you lost?"he says loudly and
quickly. The young women snaps her head toward him in shock and jumps a bit. "Oh i'm sorry i
didn't mean to startle you, you just looked a bit lost" soobin says gently. "What me? Oh no no im
not lost" she says with a relieved smile on her face. "Im actually trying to test out my new
crossbow. My mother just got it for me for my birthday."

She shows off the crossbow in her hands as she speaks. "Oh i don't know much about crossbows
but that looks to be a very nice one. Your mother has good taste." He compliments. She smiled
brightly and says "it is isn't it? My mother has always nurtured my hobbies thankfully. She was
very excited to give me this one this year." She laughs at the last part. "So have you actually shot it
yet?" He asks.

"I have but i missed unfortunately but thats what i get for trying to shoot a rabbit with no practice i
suppose." They both laugh along with each other. Soon they had spent nearly an hour talking and
realizing this the young women says "oh dear i must get going. I would love to see you again if
you would like, you can come to the ball my mother is hosting at the palace next month." Hearing
about the palace shocks soobin but he doesn't say anything about it. "Ya of course i will come to
the ball, get home safely."

"You too!"

They both wave at each other as she runs back into the woods. Soobin walks back over the the side
of the lake he sat on when he first got there. As he's going to sit down he hears rustling to his side
and when he looks he sees a older man. Probably in his 50s looking at him with a hateful look.
Soobin feels uneasy seeing this man walking toward him but stands his ground. When the man gets
about 15 feet from him he starts speaking to Soobin in his deep angry voice " so who do you think
you are exactly? Talking to my princess?"
Soobin is caught off guard by his sudden and outlandish statements so he just stands in place
flabbergasted. The old mam continues " she belongs to me! I will have her as my wife! And you
will not interfere! Do you understand?!" He is now yelling in anger at him. Soobin can barely
fathom a response so the only thing that comes out is "what?!"

This however only seems to make things worse and the big man standing in front of him pulls a
gem out of his coat pocket and points it at Soobin."wrong answer.." he says coldly and a bright
light beams out of the gem and into Soobin's chest. The force of the beam makes Soobin stumble
back a few steps and as he regains his footing the man steps forward saying "You will never be
able to take her from me.. especially now that you wont be you at all!" He then begins to evilly
laugh. Suddenly a blinding pain tears through Soobins body.

Before he can even comprehend what is happening to him the pain makes him faint. When Soobin
awoke still in the woods he was beyond confused but as he came to he slowly realized he was not
human anymore but a swan. 'How is this possible what did that man do to me?!' He thought to
himself as panic started to set in. He started thinking about his poor mother and how she will be
worried to death if he is not home soon and how the hell he became a swan and who was that
man?!

He was so caught up in his own thoughts he didn't notice the young man who had made his seat
right next to him. The man didn't notice soobin had woken up until he started moving around
crazily looking at his new swan body. "Hey hey hey shhhh its okay, you're okay" the mysterious
man says as he pets Soobins arms? Wings? Feathers? "I know what happened to you and im so
sorry." This made Soobin stop his movements and look up at the young man. Soobin gave him a
questioning look so he continued. "My name is Yeonjun... my father is the man that did this to you
b-" but before Yeonjun could continue, Soobin jerked away from him in fear.

"No no its okay im not going to hurt you i promise. Actually i think i can give you a temporary
fix." He suggest but continues with a warning. " my father is a very powerful sorcerer. Thankfully
that means i have some power but nothing compared to him.. so i can try to make you human
again...but you have been cursed, so it will probably only take affect for about 12 hours a day." He
hurriedly explained. Soobin tries to communicate that he will take whatever he can get as long as
he doesn't have to be stuck as a swan forever. Yeonjun reads his body language loud and clear and
doesn't waste another moment.

He pulls a gem out from his back pocket and holds it toward soobin with both of his hands while
closing his eyes. Yeonjun breathes deeply and closes his eyes and eventually a bright beam of light
comes from the gem and hits soobin just like the last one. This time however it doesn't hurt but in
fact feels ticklish. As the light continues its work soobin slowly turns back into a human. He looks
down at his fingers and touches his face in disbelief. He starts saying thank you while shaking
Yeonjuns hand vigorously.

Yeonjun only lets him celebrate a moment though and says "just remember that this isn't permanent
and eventually you will turn into a swan again. Im sorry i don't have the kind of magic to undo a
curse." He says while bowing his head but soobin doesn't want to hear any of it "Are you kidding i
thought i was going to be stuck like that foever. This is more than enough! Thank you thank you."
Yeonjun smiles and says "How about you come to my home so that we can make sure my magic
works how its supposed to?" Soobin simply nods and follows Yeonjun into the woods to a small
cabin.
~Chapter two~

The cabin was a small one. With a living room and kitchen as one room and what soobin could
only assume was a bedroom behind a door on the right side of the house. Soobin is looking around
when yeonjun says "you can sit there if you would like. Do you want some tea?" He points at the
couch and then to the kitchen in a quick and awkward attempt to make soobin feel comfortable.

Soobin smiles at him and quietly says "tea would be nice." Yeonjun nods while rubbing his hands
on his pants anxiously and quickly turns to go start the kettle. Soobin takes this chance to examine
the small home in more detail from where he was sitting on the small couch. He notices the cozy
look of the home and soon comes to the conclusion that Yeonjun must live here alone.

Soobins eyes slowly found there way back to the other man. Yeonjun is getting mugs out of the
cupboard and placing them on the counter and Soobin notices his hands trembling. He wants to ask
him if he's okay but he cant find the words to say. As Yeonjun finishes preparing the tea he starts
to talk about what has happened to Soobin.

"So um..i want to apologize again for what has happened to you..and im sorry that i cant help fix
you completely. The man who did this to you like i said is my father." He takes a deep breathe and
runs his fingers through his hair then continues. "I ran away from home 5 years ago and i haven't
seen him since but when i went to the lake today i saw what he did to you from the woods...He's
been obsessed with becoming king since i could remember and my last straw was him trying to get
me to marry the princess 5 years ago." Soobin nods in acknowledgment and asks "so how does all
of this work now?"

"Well like i said im not as strong as him so his magic will take its hold for at least 12 hours a
day...we will have to wait and see what cycle my magic will allow you"

Soobin silently nodded and looked up at yeonjun as the other walked over and placed both mugs
on the small table in front of the couch. This is the first time soobin really got to look at him.
Yeonjun was pretty to say the least. Soobin notes in his mind that if yeonjun was an animal he
would probably be some kind of cat or maybe even a fox?

Yeonjuns eyes meet soobins after he sits down on the cushioned chair to soobins right. They sit for
a moment in silence as they look at each other. Both not knowing what to say and both admiring
the other. "You are being very strong about all of this." Yeonjun whispers while looking down at
his hands. "I don't feel very strong right now. Im actually freaking out on the inside...but when you
grow up with a hypochondriac mother, you tend to be quiet about your issues."

He laughs and rubs the back of his neck "Sorry im just kind of falling apart right now." He looks at
Yeonjun with sad eyes and yeonjun feels an overwhelming wave of emotion crash into him. He
couldn't believe his father had gone this far but on the other hand he knew it was just a matter of
time before something like this happened. He needed to help soobin no matter what but the anxiety
brought on by the thought of facing his father again was almost crippling.

"I might be able to convince my father to turn you back but i'll have to work out a backup plan
incase he is still angry with me." Yeonjun explained. This was a half truth, he did need a back up
plan but he had already thought of one. He just needed to buy himself some time to calm his nerves
and anxiety. He knows he shouldn't wait and he should get this done as quickly as possible but his
body and brain protested at every thought.

He also knew for a fact that his father was still angry at him and that is what caused him the most
stress. His father has never been one for forgiveness and he definitely wouldn't be easy on his own
child. He knew what he had to do, it was simple but he had to make his body agree to it. And he
didn't know how long that will take.

"My mom is going to kill me." Soobin sighed and put his face in his hands. "I need to figure out a
way to let her know im okay. If i go back its not likely that she will let me leave again." Yeonjun
gets up without a word and looks through a small wooden cabinet in the kitchen, when he is
satisfied with what he has found he closes the doors of the cabinet and walks back over to Soobin.
He holds out a piece of paper and a pen to Soobin and says "Here right her a letter and i will deliver
it as soon as possible." Soobin grabs the paper and pen and looks up at Yeonjun again.

"Thank you, Yeonjun." Soobin says with a smile. This for some reason makes Yeonjun very
flustered and he is unable to form words. He simply nods in acknowledgment and hums an "of
course." They both sat in comfortable silence drinking their tea as Soobin wrote his letter. Soon
after Soobin finishes his letter though the sun began to set and Soobin turned into a swan once
again. Yeonjun was filled with sadness once again for this poor boy who was simply in the wrong
place at the wrong time.

Yeonjun helps Soobin get comfortable on the couch and sits with him for a while so he doesn't feel
lonely. Soon after Soobin falls asleep Yeonjun finds himself dosing off so he gets up and tucks
Soobins now swan body in with a blanket. He shuts the curtains, locks the door, folds Soobin's
letter and puts it on the counter by his door and soon he is tucked into his own bed, falling asleep.
~Chapter three~

The morning sun shining through the small window hit Yeonjun's sleeping face. The light made
him stir but he was much too lazy to actually get up. He flipped over and covered his face with his
arm in a last ditch effort to block the light and stay asleep. But unfortunately he was unsuccessful.
As his sleep hazy mind came to reality he remembered the situation he was in and leapt from his
bed.

Before he reaches the door though he catches a glimpse of himself in his mirror and almost jumps
at his appearance. He quickly walks over to the mirror and combs down his hair that had become
messy in his sleep with his fingers. He tries to rub the sleep from his eye and lightly slap his face to
get rid of the sleepy look on his face. Once he's content with the way his face looks he smooths
down his clothes, walks over to the door, takes a few breaths, and walks into the main room of his
cabin.

When he looks to the couch that he left Soobin on he sees that the other is still asleep. Even though
his home is old and squeaky, he makes his best attempt to make it into the kitchen area without
making any noise. This attempt of course is futile because the house groans with every other step
he takes. But the sounds are thankfully not loud enough to wake Soobin. Once Yeonjun makes it
to his kitchen he realizes he doesn't have much food.. "so kimchi pancakes it is." He thinks to
himself with a sigh;He had to admit he was kind of tired of them.

Especially considering thats all he ever seems to have ingredients for on days like these when he
hasn't gone shopping in a while. He gets out his ingredients and his one and only trusty pan. After
lighting the stove, preheating the pan and mixing tigether the ingredients he starts making the first
pancake. After it sizzles for a while he sees Soobin stir out of the corner of his eye. Soobin slowly
sits up and puts his feet on the cold floor. He rubs his eyes as the blanket he was using slightly
falls off his lap. Yeonjun catches a glance and cant help but blush at Soobins cuteness.

Yeonjun soon snaps back to normal thought and inwardly shames himself for thinking such things.
Soobin notices him making breakfast and mumbles an almost unintelligible "g'mornin" yeonjun
smiles softly and says "good morning Soobin, im making breakfast! i hope you like kimchi
pancakes!" Soobin nods cutely with his eyes closed. It seemed to yeonjun that soobin wasn't an
easy riser. "How about you go freshen up, wash your hands and come have breakfast?" Yeonjun
asks sweetly.

"Mhm" soobin sleepily stands up and nods once again in agreement. "The bathroom is the door on
the left in my room." Yeonjun says as he turns back his full attention to the food and hears soobins
feet shuffle across the old floor and his bathroom door clicking shut. After a while Soobin came
out of the bathroom to notice that the food was plated and on the table and yeonjun had already sat
down. He shuffles over to the table and sits down in the empty chair. "Thank you Yeonjun" he says
right before yawning. "Your welcome." He says with a smile. "Dig in." He gestures to the food.

They ate while talking and getting to know eachother. Yeonjun told him that he would go and take
his letter to his mother and buy some groceries while he was out and that he should be back before
lunch and Soobin took to asking a few questions. He learned surprisingly many things about
yeonjun in that short time. He learned that yeonjun was twenty-one and he ran away when he was
sixteen. His father is a rich and powerful man who had tried to pair him up with the princess.

Yeonjun had basically grown up with the princess and didn't see her as a romantic prospect and this
angered his father. Yeonjun had run away and found this cabin abandoned in the woods so he
stayed and made it his home. Yeonjun had also shared his side of the story of watching his father
do what he did to soobin and apologized for being too afraid to stop him. But soobin couldn't and
wouldn't attempt to blame him for any of this because he saved him and thats all that mattered. He
cant imagine he would step in if their roles were reversed so he understood. Soobin also shared
some of his life with yeonjun.

Like how his father had passed away from an illness leaving his mother alone and traumatized. He
explained how seeing her husband die in such a way consumed her and made her terrified of
sickness. She rarely let soobin leave, would always make him wash anything that touched the
outside and would make him eat weird fruits to keep him "healthy". But soobin still loved her more
than the whole world.

Yeonjun stayed true to his word and was back by the time soobin had started to feel a bit hungry at
around mid day. He sees yeonjun walking through the tree line from where he's sitting in yeonjun's
garden. The other is walking with a cloth sack on his back presumably filled with groceries. From
where soobin is sat he has time to really take in the others apperance for the first time. Of course he
had been looking at him but he hadn't really seen him. He hadnt seen how truly soft his raven
colored hair was, or how even thoigh he was a man; he moved with the grace of a dancer. Similiar
to the grace he saw on the dancers he was taken to see by his father when he was just six years old.

He thought that yeonjun was the same size as himself but as he looked at him he realized he
probably stood just a few inches shorter and had a slightly smaller build that himself. Soobin had
no idea where this sudden feeling came from hell he didn't even know what this feeling was but as
Yeonjun grew near with the sunlight shinning brightly behind him through the trees with a smile
on his face Soobins heart began to beat faster. He shakes off his thoughts and stands to great the
raven haired boy as he was almost to his home with a "Hey welcome back."

"Hey i got some groceries!" Yeonjun responds and lifts the slightly heavy sack with a grin. Soobin
returns his smile and goes to open the door for him. As yeonjun goes to step into the house their
shoulders brush and it sends tingles up their arms but neither says anything. Once he is inside he
kicks off his shoes and puts his groceries on the counter. The thought of their shoulders touching
and the feeling it brought hadn't left either of their minds.

Yeonjun had only known Soobin for about 24 hours but it was clear to him that he was smitten by
Soobin. He felt a bit guilty seeing as they had only just met and liking someone this quick was
something you only read about in fairytales. Yeonjun thinks maybe he should put himself out there
to see how Soobin responds. As they both stood in the kitchen area of his home the air around
them became a bit awkward as neither of them wanted to offend the other by talking about their
feelings. So Yeonjun takes a leap of faith;as he puts away the groceries he says "you know, one of
the other reasons i didn't want to marry the princess was because i already liked someone." Soobin
who had started helping with groceries, stops and looks up at yeonjun.

"Really with who? If you don't mind me asking..." yeonjun turns around and rests his butt on the
counter and relaxes against the cupboards and continues "well he was a servant in my fathers home,
we had grown up together and by the time i was 16 i was sure i was in love with him. My father
found out and killed him that day and only waited a few days before trying to force me into a
marriage with the princess." Soobin listens intently and replies "you liked a boy?" The question
was rhetorical but soobin wasn't finished so he continued " I remember liking a boy when i was
younger but when you get stuck inside for weeks on end you cant really build relationships
with...well anyone really." He laughs it off but Yeonjun could tell it was something that bothered
him quite deeply.

Yeonjun goes to speak but before he can even utter a word soobin says "im really sorry your father
did that to you. That must have been really hard for you to deal with alone at such a young age." It
was heartfelt and his words were filled with sadness for the other. Before he knew it yeonjun had
tears pricking at his eyes. Thats the first time anyone had ever acknowledged his trauma and if he
was honest it hit him harder than expected "Oh my g- i didn't mean to make you upset! Was it
something i said-" he was cut off by Yeonjun hugging him tightly. Yeonjuns face resting in the
crook of Soobins neck.

The raven haired boy mumbles into the others skin, "i guess we both don't have much luck with
people and relationships huh?" Soobin hugs back tightly and says "ya i guess not." They stay like
this a while basking in each others warmth. When they pull away they are face to face looking
each other in the eye, both catching glimpses of the others lips. But yeonjun lightly pushes away
from Soobins grasp and says "well um... i should probably make you some lunch. Are you
hungry?" Soobin, who was still holding onto the others arms nods simply and lets his touch linger
on yeonjun's skin as the other walks further into the kitchen.
