ABSTRACT

Paver blocks are one of the most important structural equipment in the field of civil
engineering. The durability and aesthetic aspects of paver blocks made them as an
excellent material choice for construction of driveways, walkways, other flat outdoor
spaces. Pavement has been extensively used in a number of countries as a specialized
problem-solving technique for providing pavement in areas where conventional types of
construction are less durable due to many operational and environmental constraints.
Composites are exclusive and versatile area in field of construction as it offers better
properties compared to pure materials. Hence Paver blocks are prepared using M35 grade
mix proportion by crushed oyster shell as 20% of fine aggregate partial replacement and
calcium chloride admixture as 2% by weight of cement in paver blocks. crushed Oyster
shells are non-biodegradable and pollute the land and water when discarded
indiscriminately. The shells came from local area restaurants which were sending around
10,000 oyster shells each week to the landfill. Calcium chloride admixture is used as an
accelerator in the hydration process of cement, leading to increased rate of setting and
substantial compressive strength development. Dumble shape paver block mould size
29×23×7cm.

OBJECTIVE

• During the study we are going to discuss a possible way for constructing
the paver blocks by using crushed oyster shell waste and calcium chloride
Admixture.
• By improving compressive strength of paver blocks it can be used for heavy
traffic areas.
• To produce cost effective and eco - friendly paver blocks.
• To increase life span of paver blocks.
• To reduce the use of fine aggregate in paver blocks.
• Paver blocks are more environment - friendly as compared to the solid plain
surface. solid surface causes water and chemical run-off that may pollute
natural water sources . Blocks paving will also prevent rain water from
gathering or flooding , allowing you to create better drainage system on
your driveways.

SCOPE

• Interlocking concrete block pavements ,an environment friendly and labour intensive
technology, has been developed at Central Road Research Institute (CRRI) in India.
• lnterlocking Concrete Block Pavers (ICBP) has been extensively used in many of the
countries due to concern with durability.
• They are utilized in a variety of commercial , municipal and industrial applications
• The superior engineering Properties , low maintenance, ease of placement and removal
, aesthetic appeal and immediate availability are the primary reasons for choosing.
• This are available in various shapes, sizes & colors.
• Partial Replacement of fine aggregate by crushed oyster shell and calcium chloride
Admixture in cement we can able to produce cheaper and heavy load carrying paver
blocks.
