Dear Desbudiman,
We greatly appreciate the opportunity to provide the following solution for your laterite dust application and
continue our partnership with PT Vale Indonesia. As you are aware, we have a long-term partnership with
PT Vale at this site, currently having six (6) systems conveying this very material. Laterite ore dust is an
excellent representative material for our dense phase technology, it is easily fluidizable however does not
retain air. Additionally, like many dusts, it has inherent abrasive characteristics. If not handled with care, it
will have detrimental effects on contact surfaces. Macawber’s objective will be to mitigate these detriments,
and provide operational value in areas of reliability, energy consumptions, and maintenance downtime.

Our process minimizes these impacts and provides a level of reliability that
will increase operational efficiencies for years to come. Below you will see
a specific, custom approach that will provide tangible value, reduce life-
cycle costs and maintenance downtime.
There are 3 major characteristics that separate our approach from our
competitors; Figure 1.1: Material conveying
above the saltation velocity
1. Dome Valve® – this valve was originally patented by impacting the valve seal and

bubble tight seal in the harshest of environments. All the
sealing surfaces are out of the direct flow of material during operation. This provides superior life
over conventional butterfly valves.
2. Pipe size to vessel size – because of the reliability of the Dome Valve®, wear is not a concern.
This allows our process to utilize smaller vessels, conveying more cycles per hour to meet a
given rate.
Additionally, if a cross section of pipe filled with material was taken, less material is in direct
contact with the pipe surface, minimizing wear. Thus, conveying more material on itself rather
than the pipe wall.
3. No use of boosters – because our smaller vessel and larger pipe diameter ratio, we are able to
fill the pipe with material in a reliable and predictable process. Keeping the slug of material
reasonably small, we are able to keep the material fluidized and aerated, not needing air
boosters.

As you will see below, we will have two (2) sets of 50/12-12 Denseveyor® transporters for this project. The
primary pair will be located at the Intermediate Dust Facility where the dust will be conveyed to the
Agglomeration Plant #2. The other set will be located below an intermediate bin. This set will be solely
dedicated of conveying the dust to Destination #2: 500 MT Dust Bin. An intermediate system is necessary
due to the distance from the Intermediate Dust Facility to the 500 MT Dust Bin.
Historically, we have a set list of standards as directed by PT Vale that include specific pressure gauge,
PRV, and regulators. Additionally, all tubing is specified to be ½” 316 Stainless Steel and NEMA 4X 316
Stainless Steel control panels. Finally, we are specified to remove our proprietary Dome Valve® and
instead design the Denseveyor® to have an adapter to accommodate an Everlasting Valve which is
provided by others.
Upon your evaluation and review of our technical approach, if you should have any questions or need
additional clarifications, please let me know. We are very fortunate to be considered for this opportunity and
look forward to partnering with you on this project.
Kind Regards,
Brad Wicks

Executive Summary
Pneumatic Conveying
While pneumatic conveying is not a new technology, the application and use of this process has advanced
significantly in the last half century. Historically the pneumatic conveying technology was to meter small
amounts of material into a low pressure (10 -15psig), high velocity and continuously moving stream of air
generated by a blower or fan. This process is termed Dilute Phase conveying whereas the material to air
ratios are very low. In many cases, specifically where the material is abrasive, there is significant wear on the
convey pipe and equipment as generated from the velocity of the material traveling through the system.
Most of the advancements have come with the introduction of Dense-Phase conveying. As the term, would
imply, this is a much higher material to air ratio process and the technology in which we specialize. This
application of conveying uses low volumes of air and higher pressures (20 -30psig) which generates a slower
velocity of the material. Our slug flow velocity is approximately between 2 – 15ft/sec.
In the early development of the process a common point of failure was surrounding the inlet valve. The valve
could not maintain a proper seal during normal operation due to wear on the sealing surfaces. The valves
only available at the time where slide gate and butterfly valves. Unfortunately, many companies continue to
use these valves in their systems creating a high probability and common point of failure.
Dome Valve®
System Efficiency
The daily operation of the system is exceptionally efficient. Mechanical and dilute phase systems are
continuously running regardless of the material load or demand requirements consuming utilities, wearing of
all the rotating component resulting in increased operational expenses. Our systems are designed with a
control logic that is based on an upstream or downstream process demand requirement. When there is no

demand for material, the system is in an idle state minimizing your operational cost per ton of material
conveyed.
Because of the effectiveness of the Dome Valve® and its ability to provide a bubble tight seal after thousands
of cycles, the valve ensures that all of the energy required to convey the material is used for that purpose and
not lost through leaking and inferior inlet valves. In many cases the inability to reliably create this air tight seal
causes our competitors to install downstream inline air injection or boosters.
Competition
Our operational application and arrangement continue to save you cost even as the system is running. As
previously stated above, many of our competitor’s systems require downstream / inline air injection or
boosters. Reasonably, there are adverse effects when this air is injected into the convey line; 1) greater
installation capital cost for the addition of an adjacent air manifold and communication to the solenoid for the
entire length of the convey line, 2) the more air used increases your monthly expense cost per ton of material
conveyed and 3) the more air injected in the confined space of the convey line, increasing the ΔP across the
material fundamentally causes the material to increase velocity having an adverse effect on material and
excessive wear on equipment. This is not a theory developed by Macawber but a law of physics. As evidence
to this claim is why many companies are forced to use schedule 80 pipe and abrasive resistant elbows. The
methods and application in which we empty our vessel and load the pipe along with the vessel to pipe size
ratio enables the material to flow through the convey pipe in a reliable, controlled, and predictive steady state
minimizing material and equipment wear.
The cycle time of other companies pneumatic convey system may be equal to that representative of dense
phase conveying however, this is more of a result of how quickly the material can exit the vessel. With the
larger vessel size with a smaller outlet opening to smaller convey pipe diameter establishes the rate in which
the material can be loaded into the pipe. Our vessel is completely empty within 10 – 15 seconds depending
on the length of the slug.
Maintenance
Operated properly as defined in the Operations Instruction Manual, the complete system does not require any
significant preventative maintenance. A periodic check to confirm that the seal is inflating properly and holding
pressure, lubricators are properly filled, airline filters are not clogged, strainers emptied, etc. are examples of
the types of tasks required to keep your system performing optimally, minimizing your cost of maintenance.
Confidence
With over 40 years of business experience and an accumulation of more than 100 years of technical
knowledge, we have the necessary capabilities to ensure that our solution will provide you the best return on
investment. While every plant and material are different and each system is uniquely designed to optimize
your solution, we have used this technology globally in more than 10,000 installations for applications.

Quality
To ensure that you as our Customer will receive the equipment as so ordered and as agreed upon between
the two parties to industry standards; we are an ISO 9001:2015 certified manufacturer. Our documented
procedures and processes are developed to ensure that we provide equipment that meets your expectations
at a fair and reasonable value. We are continuously adapting to Customer and market demands as well as
incorporating best practices to maintain best value for our products and services. This ensures that the
application of our systems will exceed your performance expectations.
As evidence of the above statement, since the beginning of our business in the 1970’s more than 60% of our
annual business is from repeat customers. In many cases, our equipment life far exceeds all reasonable
standards for ROI (Return on Investment) surpassing 30 years of service. We are confident that our
equipment, processes and application of our technology with proper operation that you will see similar
success.
All of our critical process, dimensions and applications are well identified on our production drawings and work
instructions. These attributes are recorded during the production and testing of our equipment. All records
are retained for a minimum of 7 years and longer as required.
Design Standards
Safety of all our products and the personnel operating them is of the utmost importance to us. We understand
that our systems are often in critical applications and the reliability of their performance is essential to your
successful plant operation. All of our pressure vessel products are designed and manufactured in accordance
to American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) Section VIII, Division 1, the latest addition and
addendum. We carry certifications for “U” and “UM” to apply to our pressure vessels. This ensures that all
our products are design, constructed and manufactured to high standards meeting the requirements of the
industry.
Material Standard
The materials that we purchase are in strict accordance with the requirements as specified in ASME. It is
traced throughout the manufacturing process via heat numbers and/or lot trace numbers which provides full
traceability back to the origin of the material. Therefore, in the unlikely event there is ever failure of any kind,
the material can be traced back to the source and all other components where the material was used for which
the necessary disposition and/or corrective action can be taken.
Castings
We have been using casting in our products since the inception of the company. All of our casting patterns
are design in such a way to allow for generous radii to prevent any stress cracking in the casting. All of our
castings are constructed to ASME grey iron material. They are free of sand, slag, cracks, porosity and other
similar defects.
Welding

The joining of these materials is equally critical to ensure safety and long life of the equipment. All of our
welding processes are strictly controlled and monitored. Each of our welding processes have filed Procedure
Qualification Reports (PQR) identifying both the essential and non-essential variables in which the procedure
was qualified. From these qualifications, we have developed Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) that
our welders follow daily. Welder Qualification Maintenance Records are maintained for all qualified welders.
Filler Metals
Filler metals are selected and traced in accordance with ASME Section IX. We record the filler metal heat
trace number on each welded joint of our pressure vessels. The filler metal is controlled in a secured location
and issued daily as required for the work to be accomplished.
Machining
Our machining processes are in accordance to good industrial shop practices. All dimensions and surface
conditions meet the specified dimensions and tolerances as detailed on the manufacturing drawings. After
machining, all machined surfaces are protected from nicks, scrapes, gouges, and/or blemishes that could
provide a leak path across any sealing surface.
We apply a rust prohibitor to all machine surfaces that are to be stored and/or inventoried for prolong periods
of time. This material is then removed with a solvent or other suitable product prior to the beginning of the
assembly process.
Assembly
During the assembly process, we apply Loctite nickel anti seize compound rated for temperatures up to 1,315
C° and/or Loctite Red high strength locking compound as required. All flange bolts are minimum grade 5 zinc
platted fasteners. All bolt and nut connections must have full thread engagement plus 1 ½ threads not to
exceed 4 threads.
Unless otherwise specified on the drawing, standard torque valves and tightening sequences are applied that
meets the grade of the fastener. All of our measuring instruments are calibrated to their standard values.
For screw pipe fittings, we use Teflon tape for thread sealant. When applying, care is taken to ensure that
tape is applied in such a way not to extend over the end of the pipe. All threads must be covered with the

exception of the first and last thread. When cutting male end threads on stock pipe the die depth settings are
confirm by check to standard gauge. After engagement of the standard, the gauge must turn a minimum of
¾ revolutions, not to exceed 1 ½ to have an acceptable thread depth.
Paint
Surface Preparation
Before the application of any coatings, all surfaces are prepared in accordance to the recommendations of
the coating manufacturer. The general process includes the cleaning of all application surfaces in such a way
to be free of dirt, grit, oil, grease, and any other foreign materials that could be considered contamination.
The surface is then prepared to the necessary profile using a shot blasting process to achieve the specified
surface condition per the coating manufacturer’s recommendation. The material that we use during shot
blasting is a G-40 cast steel angular grit. Generally, for our standard products the surface profile shall meet
the requirements of SSPC-SP6. The equipment is then cleaned again to remove dust, dirt and grit, then
moved to our controlled environment paint booth.
Standard Application
Our standard paint that we apply is an Alkyds base coating manufactured by Carboline. This product is a
single coat process product. Before product application and surface preparation, the equipment is prepared
and cleaned in such a way to be free of dirt, grit, oil, grease and other foreign materials that could be
considered contamination. Paint is then applied in multiple coats until the manufactures specified mil-
thickness is achieved. Once the operator feels that the appropriate mil-thickness has been achieved and the
coating has fully cured, the mil-thickness is confirmed DFT (Dry Film Tester).
Interior Coating
For applications requiring PTFE coating we will be applying the coating on the inside surfaces of the dome of
the Dome Valves®. Our standard Teflon coating that we apply is Xylan manufactured by Whitford.
All other products not listed above will not be Teflon coated internally and external surfaces will be coated to
the standards as outlined above or to the original equipment manufacturers standards.
If required in the statement of work, loose flanges, fasteners, pipe, etc. will be supplied in the as received / as
milled finish condition. No factory paint will be applied to these surfaces.
Inspection
All products before crating and ship receive a final inspection by qualified personnel. Photos are taken just
before and after packaging then archived as evidence of the as shipped condition of the material.

Packaging
Macawber Engineering Inc. is an ISPM wood packaging stamp holder. We abide by the guidelines for
regulating solid wood packaging material in international trade. All solid wood purchased by Macawber
Engineering, Inc., used to build crates for shipping, is inspected and only accepted, if the Heat Treatment
markings are identified on the wood. Our packaging meets good industry standard for over the road and
international transportation. All loose materials such as pipe flanges, pipe fittings, nuts, bolts, gaskets, etc.
are separated by size and type. We construct a container of heat-treated dimensional lumber (pine) and OSB
sheet to adequately support and secure the material during transit. The container is placed and attached on
4”x4” runners so the container can be lifted and moved with a standard fork lift truck.
Larger components are placed on their own shipping pallet constructed of heat-treated dimensional lumber
(pine). The base platform is placed on 4”x4” runners so that it can be lifted by a standard fork lift truck. The
equipment is restrained to the platform with ½’ lag bolts. If the equipment is transported via flatbed or
otherwise open container the equipment is covered with a tarpaulin.
All electrical, pneumatic and/or otherwise panel boxes are designed for external environment use. The panel

4.3.2 If a vertical change in elevation is required, it is recommended and preferred for the total
vertical pipe rise to be adjacent to the Denseveyor® pressure vessel - unless noted
otherwise. If this arrangement cannot be achieved the system recommendations may be
subject to revision.
4.3.3 The outline pipe route has been supplied to us by the customer for the purpose of developing
this proposal. Due to the effects of pipe routing on pneumatic conveying, it is required that
Macawber review and approve the final routing as soon as possible. Conditions beyond
those made for the purpose of this proposal may result in the need to revise the equipment
selected and variables outline in section 4.0.
4.3.4 A pressure dew point of -40° as recommended in this proposal is an arbitrary figure since
we may not be able to control the behaviour of the material should it gain moisture from
some source.
4.3.5 The basis of this proposal is made from the characteristics of the material as defined by the
customer and/or as determined by Macawber from material samples supplied by the
customer. Should the material characteristics change or differ as outlined in section 4.1, the
application as outlined in the body of this proposal may require revision.
4.3.6 If any part of the customer process as associated with the Macawber system has the
presence or potential presence of a vacuum, Macawber must be notified immediately.

The Macawber Dome Valve® and Denseveyor® highlight the two primary components of our
technical approach for your project. Macawber is the original designers and U.S. patent holders
(4,137,935 | 5,642,751) of the Dome Valve® which is fitted to each of our pneumatic transport
vessels. Due to its design, it provides a full port flow of material into the vessel and has an inflatable
seal underneath the top plate ensuring a bubble-tight closure. The Denseveyor® is an ASME
pressure vessel and capable of conveying most dry bulk powders we see in the market.
Volumetrically sized to meet the demanded convey rate of the application, it is our most diverse
system.
The Denseveyor® operates from a Programmable Logic Control (supplied by others), an HMI
touchscreen (supplied by others), and capacitance signals (supplied by others) in the feed source
and the reception silo (both supplied by others). The Denseveyor® will be fitted with an inlet 300mm
Everlasting filling valve (supplied by others), which will remain in a normally closed position. As
confirmations are received that material is available in the feed source and there is adequate volume
in the reception silo, the system will begin it’s convey sequencing.
The inlet Everlasting valve will open along with the Everlasting vent valve (supplied by others). As
material is gravity into the Denseveyor® from the above feed source, a timer will be initiated
(confirmed during commissioning). Once the vessel has been filled with material, the inlet and vent
Everlasting valve will both close and seal.
The main convey air valve from the air receiver is rapidly opened pressuring the vessel. As the
pressure builds, material will begin to exit the vessel and move into the convey line. The material is
conveyed through the convey line traveling in a bed flow. From there, we monitor the delta p (∆P)
which is the differential pressure of the leading and trailing edges of material.
As material reaches its terminal point, it will be the customers discresion of how to terminate the
material into the reception silo. This can be accomplished with an elbow, a target box, or something
similar (please consult with Macawber for this). The air and expanding compressed gas are cleanly
vented back into the atmosphere through the passive bin vent (supplied by others). It is critical to
the successful operation of the system that a bag type bin vent is used.
Once the cycle is complete, the system will return to a standby mode until there is another demand.
Please note that the above air consumption and system sizing are based on the material to be
conveyed as specified in the proposal.
If the material characteristics or conveying pipe route changes, this may necessitate changes in the
above conveying air recommendations and/or size of system.

Reduced Wear
The Denseveyor® is a versatile dense phase pneumatic conveying system. It is an ASME Section VIII Div.1
pressure vessel transferring material in a low-velocity and is fully customizable. It provides specific
benefits for difficult applications with inherent extreme material characteristics, distances and convey
rates. Capable of handling most dry bulk powders, the Denseveyor® provides reliability, energy efficiency,
and reduces pipe wear and maintenance downtime. It is easily adapted to suit existing process layouts
and equipment footprints.
