This summer several of my cousins gathered together for Memorial Day. They decided to bring a
karaoke machine and everybody had to sing. I convinced my brother-in-law to sing with me and we
decided to sing Mr.Brightside.

My favorite protest song is “Hurricane” by Bob Dylan. The song is very fast paced and tells the true story
of Rubin “Hurricane” Carter who was on his way to becoming a boxing champion but was wrongfully
arrested for murder. The song follows the events of what caused him to be arrested. The song opens
with a man shooting three men in a bar and robbing the register. The man then tells a women named
Patty that he didn’t shoot the men he just robbed the register and then proceeds to blame two men
who had run out and gotten in a white car with out-of-state plates. The police pull a man over who was
driving a car matching the description that was given and Rubin happens to be in the car. Rubin was
arrested with no evidence tying him to the crime. He was convicted and served 20 years in prison. He
was released due to many people petitioning for another look at his case. The two police officers who
had arrested him were later convicted for the mishandling of Rubin’s case.
