Manufacturing Guide
Pilot ladder is one type of rope ladder used for embarking and disembarking pilots
Pilot ladder design, manufacturing and arrangement must comply with SOLAS chV. Reg23
regulations, IMO resolution A.1045(27) and MSC.1-Circ.1428 guidelines, recommended
ISO 799-1 standards and ISM Code, Part A, para. 10.1

Rope:
Ropes should be made of uncovered mold-resistant manila or heat-treated polyester rope with polypropylene
core have a braking strength more than 24KN.
Ropes shall be of a diameter which is no less than 18mm diameter or 57mm in circumference
The side ropes are continuous loops with the joint above the top step or below the
bottom step only the midpoint half-length being located on a thimble large
enough to accommodate at least two passes of side rope
Steps:
The distance of inner edge of side ropes should be more than 400mm, the width of step is no less than 115mm,
and thickness no less than 25mm. The steps should be non-slip, hard wood steps without knot and equally
spaced at 330±20mm.
Rubber Step:
The bottom 4 steps may be made f resilient synthetic raw material or rubber if it is of sufficient strength and
stiffness. Rubber steps should be of the same required dimensions as the wooden steps.
Spreader:
Spreader shall have the same specifications as normal steps, but length of spreader shall not be less than 1.8
meters.
Step Fixing Piece:
Must be wood or plastic
Fastening Hardware:
Fastening hardware for rope and steps must be corrosion resistant, or made of similar material treated
corrosion resistance.
