Topic: Character
Character trait
Display a familiar character from a movie/tv show. Ask students to describe the ● Think/Pair/Share
character. Teacher will jot down responses and point out these are character ● Assessments
traits.
Begin whole group with reading aloud of the text (The rainbow fish). Stop on the
first page and ask students what characters you see. Point out traits in the fish
such as selfish and happy throughout reading the book. After the read, model for
students describing a character’s traits. Have students repeat and read back the
words in a group chant to practice language. Ask students the questions below.
Have two students hand out worksheets after modeling.
Ask students:
1. Why are characters important to the text?
2. How does the character change from the beginning to the end of the
story?
3. Would you be friends with this character? Why or why not?
Students are assessed through observations and questioning throughout the lesson.
Teacher will collect worksheets and organizers to assess the understanding of the skill.
