1-Introduction

Due to poor education and overall lack of surveillance, our community suffers from waste pollution, in the form of
plastic, food and other types of everyday waste.
These items, whether discarded intentionally or blown away from specific locations, contribute to increase pressure
on river and plant ecosystems. Most of our waste is made from non-biodegradable products, which is very
dangerous and persists in the ecosystem for long times.

Iraq produces approximately 30,000 tons of solid waste per day, but it lacks a qualified infrastructure to deal with
this amount of waste and dispose of it in an appropriate manner that ensures that there are no negative effects on the
environment and the health of the population, so most of the waste is disposed of in irregulated landfills. These
practices end up costing Iraq a heavy price when it comes to its international obligations to reduce greenhouse
gas emissions, in addition to the soil and water pollution caused directly by the waste.
