1. As future teachers, why do you need to learn and use the mother tongue in the
lower primary grades in school?
-As future teachers, we need or I need to learn and use the mother tounge
in the lower primary grades in school because I need to be considerate or I need
to know the things or ways that can help the students in easily understanding the
lessons. One of those ways is using the mother tounge which pertains to the
language they had grown up. We educators are bound to educate and we can
easily transfer knowledge to primary students if we will use the language they are
familiar of.

2. Why did the Department of Education require schools to use the mother tongue as
a language for teaching and learning from Kindergarten up to Grade 3?

Because according to Department of Education (DepEd) it mandates the use of


the language as medium of instruction to allow them to grasp basic concepts easily. So
requiring the use of the mother tounge as the medium language for instruction or teaching
in primary levels to every schools help every students to cope up, adjust, develop their
appropriate cognitive and reasoning skills that enables the student to operate equally in
different languages starting in the mother tounge which is the first language of the child.

3. What are the fundamental requirements needed to provide a strong MTBMLE


program according to DepEd Order 74, s. 2009.
The fundamental requirements needed to provide a strong MTB-MLE
program according to DepEd Order 74 series 2009.
• For all learning program of the Alternative Learning System (ALS)
the learners first language shall be used as primary medium and
thereafter depending upon the previous level of functional literacy
and pedagogical requirement level of accreditation and equivalency.
• The Bureau of Alternative Learning System (BALS) shall determine
the suitable second and third language that will maximize the
educational benefits and competencies of ALS client.

Activity 4. Determining the Benefits of Using the Mother Tongue

use of the mother tongue? mother tongue as a medium of
teaching and learning

numbers, recite alphabets, identify shapes
and colors.

Academic Development Giving the students task about writing,


analyzing.

Socio-cultural Development Asking the students to narrate theirs


stories or what surroundings they have.

Activity 5. Reflect on this

As a future teacher, which language is more effective in communicating with


learners in the early grade level? Why?

As future teacher, the language that is more effective in communicating with


learners in the early grade level is their first language or the mother tounge. Because that
language is where they are familiar with, and it can help them same with the educator to
share knowledge and let the primary level students analyze and understand the lessons
that they are going to tackle. It can help the students to adopt in their new environment
since they are just starting to learn and to discover new things. And most importantly is
the students can easily develop their skills.
