Training Process

         Effective: 24th June 2022

Purpose

To inform personnel undergoing the IPLDP Initial Police Learning &


Development Programme.

Student Constables will be referred to as “candidtates”.

Policy

1. Requirements and expectations of candidtates

1. Candidates have a maximum of three weeks to complete their


IPLDP

1. Requesting of extension may be permitted under explicit

circumstances, this must be authorised by Corporate Services

2. Canditates will adhere to Policy #001 at all times


3. Candidtates will refer to the Learning & Development Staff as
“staff”
4. Candidates are not permitted to go on operational duties under
any circumstances

2. Training Process

1. The training process will consist of five modules

1. Module one

1. Service introduction to be conducted on our communications


centre where we introduce service policies, expectations,
present informative presentations and give a introduction into
employment with the police

2. Module two

1. This will introduce candidates to essential legislation, national


decision model, THRIVE, arresting process and other essential
theoretical knowledge. Candidates will be introduced to the
training facility and will be given an opportunity to familarise
themselves with the uniform.

3. Module three

1. We begin our practical phase where they will undergo officer


safety training, famalirising themselves with restraint
techniques, situational awareness tests and will be tasked with
scenarios to complete effectively and to the expected
standards.

4. Module four

1. All candidates will undergo basic life support training in first aid
at work to prepare them with the lifesaving skills they need.
They will also be expected to undergo a emergency driver
training course to test their ability as well as provide them with
vehicle related scenarios as well.

5. Module five

1. This will include a operational patrol with a member of the


Instructor team on a operational basis and will join the instructor
on a patrol to get “on-the-job” knowledge. They will then be
provided a examination of which they will need to pass in order
to progress.

3. Examination

1. Candidtates will be expected to complete the examination and


will have a set 48 hours in order for them to complete the
examination otherwise they will be expected to re-do module
five

1. They can request an extension for their examination period but


this must be approved by the Director of Corporate Services

2. If candidates fail to meet the pass mark, they will be offered


another re-submission and they will be provided their
examination results in order for them to revise

1. Upon acknowledgement of them receiving the examination they


will then have a further 48 hours for them to complete the
resubmission
2. Should they fail their resubmission, they will be placed on a
:
Independent Review Board to assess any issues or failings
within the system as well as establish anything we can do to
assist the candidate in the progression of their career within the
service

4. Flipped Learning

1. These flipped learning tasks are independent research tasks


that will be completed prior to attending each module

1. Candidates will be given a flipped learning portal where they will


select the correct task, for example a candidate who completed
module one will be expected to complete their module two tasks
in preparation for module two

2. Failure to complete the independent research tasks meaning


they are unable to progress to the next module
3. Flipped Learning tasks are to encourage independent research
and note taking to aid them in completing their examination as
well as prepare them for the next module

5. Training Scheme

1. Training Schemes will be amended and maintained by


Corporate Services and will be adjusted to suit the services
requirements, abide by the national decision model and follow
correct legislation
