ABSTRACT:

Kapsabet Municipal is an urban center located in Nandi County, Kenya. Despite its
significance in the region, there has been little research done on the history of
Kapsabet Municipal. This research proposal aims to examine the historical evolution
of Kapsabet Municipal from pre-colonial times to the present day. Using a qualitative
approach involving archival research, interviews, and participant observation, this
study will explore the cultural and economic evolution of Kapsabet Municipal,
identify the key factors that have influenced its growth and development, and analyze
the impact of colonialism on the town's development. The expected outcomes of the
study include providing new insights into the history of Kapsabet Municipal,
contributing to the preservation of cultural heritage, and informing policy decisions
related to urban development.

INTRODUCTION :

Kapsabet Municipal is an urban center in Nandi County, Kenya, with a rich cultural
heritage and a diverse population. Despite its significance in the region, there has
been little research done on the history of Kapsabet Municipal. This research proposal
aims to examine the development of the town from pre-colonial times to the present
day. By exploring the history of Kapsabet Municipal, we can gain a better
understanding of the cultural and economic evolution of the town and its impact on
the surrounding area.

BACKGROUND TO THE STUDY :

Kapsabet Municipal is located in the Rift Valley region of Kenya and has a rich
cultural heritage and a diverse population. The town has undergone significant
changes over the past century, with the development of infrastructure, institutions, and
industries. However, there has been little research done on the history of Kapsabet
Municipal. Previous studies have focused on other towns in Nandi County, such as
Eldoret and Kapsowar, but few have examined the history of Kapsabet Municipal in
detail. This research proposal seeks to fill that gap by examining the development of
the town from pre-colonial times to the present day.

AREA OF STUDY :
Kapsabet Municipal is located in Nandi County, which is situated in the Rift Valley
region of Kenya. The town is approximately 40 kilometers west of Eldoret, the largest
city in the region. Kapsabet Municipal is known for its natural beauty, including the
nearby Nandi Hills and the Kipkaren River, which flows through the town. The town
is home to a diverse population, including several ethnic groups, such as the Nandi,
Kipsigis, and other Kalenjin groups and other diverse cultures.

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM :

The lack of research on the history of Kapsabet Municipal is a significant problem.


While there has been some historical documentation on the town, much of it is
outdated, incomplete, or focused on specific aspects of the town's development. This
research proposal seeks to fill that gap by examining the development of Kapsabet
Municipal from pre-colonial times to the present day. Through this study, we hope to
gain new insights into the cultural and economic evolution of the town and identify
key factors that have influenced its growth and development over time.

OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY :

The objectives of this study are to examine the evolution of Kapsabet Municipal over
time, identify the key events and factors that have influenced its growth and
development, and analyze the impact of colonialism on the town's development.
Additionally, this study aims to contribute to the preservation of cultural heritage and
inform policy decisions related to urban development.

RESEARCH PREMISES :

This study will use a historical approach to examine the development of Kapsabet
Municipal from pre-colonial times to the present day. Theoretical frameworks that
will guide this study include urbanization theory and colonialism theories.

JUSTIFICATION OF THE STUDY :

This research is significant because it will provide new insights into the history of
Kapsabet Municipal, contribute to the preservation of cultural heritage, and inform
policy decisions related to urban development. Additionally, this study will help fill
the gap in knowledge regarding the history of Kapsabet Municipal.
SCOPE AND LIMITATIONS :

The scope of this study includes the cultural and economic evolution of Kapsabet
Municipal from pre-colonial times to the present day. Limitations of this study
include the potential for incomplete or biased data due to limited access to archival
records and sources.

This section provides a comprehensive review of previous studies on the history of


Kapsabet Municipal, as well as relevant literature on urban development and
colonialism.
