Assignment Part – II
• Develop a detailed design scenario considering a small road of one km length in a rural area
(your village or any rural area you have visited). Its two lanes (on each side) road. Assume traffic
in the region and a design life for 10 years with 7% growth factor. Calculate SN, layer
thicknesses, and cost of structural elements based on MRS.

• Assume cut volume using approximation = half length of the road x 1.5 meter average depth x
average width (Carriage way + shoulder widths + 1.5 m); take 30% hard rock, and 70% common
material for cut

• Assume a fill volume = cut volume, and consider all from borrow excavation for simplicity

• Remember actual cut and fill volume are calculated from x-sectional areas and length, and
suitable cut material is used in embankments; however, these factors are ignored here to make
your assignment simple.

• Assume all other missing data
