Jorge Perante (Disciple in Charge). Harvest Time
Ma. Teresa Solis Ahh Indeed, we are now living in the cyber world as what Sis Mel wrote in her essay. As I turn on my computer I thought of my farm in farmville, it is a game in the net. I knew that after plowing the land, planting the seeds, here comes the time to harvest. Isnt it great to see what you have worked for? For most people these days, they always say they couldnt live without their PC, or their CP. These are the things they use in their daily lives as a means of communication, getting information, searching for an answer, fun and a lot of other things. And Im one of them. But do we realize how simple life is without these things? I never expected to do this corner but here I am. I was molded and trained, so I learned. Our EIC invested her time for us. And now it is time to pass the duty to people she knew who could do the job for her. She prepared everyone for that time. Honestly, I was scared, Im not sure if I can do it or not. But I tried coz I thought of the famous line, If they can do it why cant I? I suggest we have to invest some time for the Lord our God. There are many ways: we could read the Bible, we could attend the Holy Mass to pray, listen to His word and celebrate the Eucharist. We could even use the PC and the CP to learn and spread the Good news. Have we thought of the Coming of Christ? By this time we should be prepared, something good or bad might happen. Then, we could ask ourselves, Did I prepare for the harvest time?

PAGNINILAY:
Fr.

May darating at may aalis.

SHEPERDS STAFF Mark James Evangelista Alone in the midst of nowhere Numb, unaware and as if, in despair Beaten and fallen by a despot's cudgel Hugging himself, teardrops keep falling. The night was dark, dreary and doomed Covered with mist, so sad, not good Alas, he has nothing, no water or food But only his staff, a long piece of wood. The rustling of leaves, the hush of the wind Made him at peace, enlightened by moon's gleam As he was enveloped by a deep sleep Succumbed by pain that he tried to heed. Yes, he was asleep but his thoughts do speak Not of Anger, hatred, nor even revenge bleak For he was with God, who guides him throughout his Shelter, his Refuge, the One who leads his path. And as the night comes to an end He welcomed the dawn and started to bend Wonderful praises, never ending thanks To the Lord Almighty source of Wisdom and Grace. Again he stood, and picked up his staff Shocked and aghast on what happened last night For his soiled old clothes, from head to foot Is now a tunic of silk embellished with truth.

Minsang may isang bata - by Sis Melody

LORD, I am not worthy to have you... - by Ferdie Ella

It has been quite sometime since I was encouraged by a person whom I consider beautiful inside, and out to join the ministry. I say beautiful Inside, because she has the greatest love and devotion to GOD. A trait or that we could seldom find in devout Christians and those Catholics who go to church every Sunday to fulfill their obligations as mere Christians, just like me. Outside, simply because nobody could argue what Maria Clara would look like as a true Filipina beauty, and this she also had. But her gestures in showing how grateful I can be having the potentials to serve, makes me think twice to reconsider. She is a person who believes and sees a lot within me which I probably can't deny. In my mind I want to address this question: Did I cower in a calling that anybody won't probably have second thoughts accepting, if offered?

In my journey to Hyehwadong church every Sunday, Fr. Alvin always delivers an inspiring homily that touches everyones' heart. Reflecting on these sermons makes me feel strong and confident that perhaps I Every time I would meet this person, she never fails to remind me that can be a volunteer and start a new beginning towards a new life. I can do more if I will join them as a volunteer. In parting, let me thank this person who awakened the flame within Until now, I am still reluctant if I can truly serve the ministry by me to finally realize the comfort of God's Love in His keeping. 3,000 Filipinos abroad languish in jail, DFA says

GMANews.TV - Wednesday, November 11
Three thousand Filipinos abroad are either in detention or currently facing criminal prosecution, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said. Of the total figure, seventy percent who include those who work overseas are embroiled in immigration- related offenses and are expected to be deported after serving their brief sentences. The rest are in custody for common crimes, including theft and drug trafficking, the foreign affairs department said in its semi-annual report to both houses of Congress. Although Philippine embassy and consulate officials conduct monthly jail visits, these still depend on host governments, said the same report which contains a list of Filipinos detained in other countries. Together with the Department of Labor and Employment-Overseas Workers Welfare Administration, Philippine Foreign Service posts also maintain a Filipino Workers Resource Center (FWRC) in countries with a large concentration of Filipinos. In Saudi Arabia, the DOLE also maintains four Philippine Overseas Labor Offices (POLOs) located in Riyadh, Jeddah, Al Khobar, and Buraida. Saudi Arabia court to release verdict on jailed Filipino In the meantime, a Saudi Arabian court is expected to release its final verdict on a drug-related case involving a Filipino jailed in Dammam since 2008, the DFA said. Jason Mallorca Pineda confessed to receiving 21.2 grams of methamphetamine and later selling it his fellow Filipinos in Saudi Arabia, said a report made by the Philippine Embassy in Riyadh. The case was endorsed by the General Prosecutor to the Grand Court of Dammam and later followed up by the jail, the DFA said, citing the Embassys report. The presiding judge informed that the case is still under the Courts study and review," the DFA said. Since bail is disallowed for drug-related cases under local laws, Pineda remains in detention. In a related development, the DFAs Office of the Undersecretary for Migrant Workers Affairs said final arrangements are being made for the repatriation of Jose Jonathan Botor Bigas. Bigas was also imprisoned for a drug-related offense in Saudi Arabia. Funds are being made available for the repatriation of Mr. Bigas who was originally sentenced to one year imprisonment and 250 lashes in August 2007. Mr. Bigas finished serving his term in August 2008 but due to administrative procedures between the Saudi court and the Governors Office, he remained in jail for a time," the DFA said. The DFA said there are 62 Filipinos incarcerated in nine countries in the Middle East on drug-related cases. Of these, 43 are in Riyadh and majority are women. - GMANews.TV

N.Korea boat in flames after naval clash: Seoul officials

AFP - Wednesday, November 11 SEOUL (AFP) - A North Korean patrol boat was set ablaze after exchanging fire with South Korea's navy on Tuesday, Seoul officials said, as the White House warned Pyongyang against an escalation of regional tensions. The two sides blamed each other for the clash, the first for seven years, near the disputed Yellow Sea border just a week before a US presidential visit to South Korea, with UN chief Ban Kimoon calling for "maximum restraint." President Lee Myung-Bak called an emergency meeting of security ministers as his Prime Minister Chung Un-Chan accused the North of making a "direct attack" on a South Korean high-speed patrol craft. "There was no damage on our side, while a North Korean patrol boat engulfed in flames sailed back (across the border)," Chung told parliament. He described the clash, which follows recent peace overtures from the North, as unplanned. But some analysts said Pyongyang may be sending President Barack Obama a message before he arrives in South Korea as part of an Asian tour. US warns North Korea after naval clash Defence Minister Kim Tae-Young told parliament the North's boat sailed more than 1.6 kilometres (one mile) south of the border: "I believe they clearly knew about the intrusion." The Joint Chiefs of Staff said the South's boat sent several warning signals after the North's craft crossed the border, but the intruder held its course. After the South fired warning shots, "the North's side opened fire, directly aiming at our ship. Then our ship responded by firing back, forcing the North Korean boat to return to the north," a statement said. "There were no casualties on our side. We are on the lookout for any further provocations by the North," it said. "We fired heavily on the North Korean vessel," an unidentified navy official told Yonhap news agency, adding the initial assessment was that it suffered considerable damage. "We express our strong protest to North Korea and urge it to prevent a recurrence of such incidents," said Brigadier-General Lee Ki-Sik of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. He said the two sides exchanged fire for two minutes from a distance of about three kilometres. The North fired about 50 rounds, 15 of which hit the South Korean boat. The defence ministry said the South Korean boat fired about 200 rounds from its more modern armament. The border known as the Northern Limit Line (NLL) has always been a potential flashpoint and was the scene of bloody naval clashes in 1999 and 2002. General Lee said the North had breached the NLL 22 times this year but this was the first time the South had to fire warning shots because the patrol boat kept intruding despite five warning signals. North Korea's military, however, told its South Korean counterpart to apologise for a "grave armed provocation" and said Seoul's ships had opened fire while its craft was north of the border. In a report on official media, the North said its boat "lost no time to deal a prompt retaliatory blow at the provokers." In a warning to Pyongyang, White House spokesman Robert Gibbs said: "I would say to the North Koreans that we hope that there will be no further actions in the Yellow Sea that could be seen as an escalation." UN Secretary General Ban "is closely watching the situation on the Korean peninsula. He calls for maximum restraint by both parties," said UN spokesman Farhan Haq. Kim Yong-Hyun, a professor at Dongguk University, told YTN television: "This might be an intentional clash aimed at heightening tension ahead of Obama's trip. "I believe North Korea is trying to show Obama the volatility of the peninsula. North Korea has demanded a peace pact be signed with the US to replace the truce agreement (which ended the 1950-53 war)." But Yang Moo-Jin, of Seoul's University of North Korean Studies, told AFP that had it been a deliberate provocation, the North would have mobilised more than one boat. Pyongyang has been putting out peace feelers to Seoul and Washington after months of hostility marked by its missile testlaunches and a nuclear test. Chronology: Clashes on Korean peninsula Meanwhile, the Obama administration is to send its first mission to North Korea, led by special envoy Stephen Bosworth, to jumpstart denuclearisation talks, US officials said Tuesday, although a date has not been set. Discussions would take place within the framework of six-party talks which led to the 2005 and 2007 agreements for North Korea to give up its nuclear weapons, the State Department said.
