Leadership is important in all aspects of life, whether it be personal, professional, or

social. Leaders play an important role in relation to the success of an organization.
Communication skills, decision making, problem solving are important for both personal and
professional development since it is essential for the growth. In life, most of the time people will
need direction and guidance to achieve their goals, in order to achieve that goals, we need a
leader that can provide the direction by setting a clear vision, expectations and providing
guidance to support along the way. Leaders can also inspire and motivate us to achieve our full
potential. Effective leaders can facilitate teamwork and collaboration by promoting open
communication and creating a positive work environment. Leadership is a process whereby an
individual influences a group of individuals to achieve a common goal. There are various models
and concepts that seek to explain what makes an effective leader and how leaders can inspire,
motivate, and influence others to achieve common goals.

In this assignment, I choose my sister as my object of the research. Her name is Michelle
Farran, is 2 years older than me and she is now living in Jakarta for almost 2 years by herself. At
the first I am struggle to adapt because this is the first time she is being far apart from me. She is
one of the hardest working and independent person that I have known. I believe that she has the
valuable qualities that can lead to personal fulfillment and success in life. She moved to Jakarta a
month after she finished her thesis trial because she got offered for the position of branch head at
the largest steel distribution company in Jakarta, Tangerang. Even though she was busy to adapt
with her new environments since she moved to a town where she had no acquaintances. She
immediately continued her master degree education at UPH Surabaya. Even though she was busy
to adapt with her new environments since she moved to a town where she had no acquaintances.
She feels education is number one and must be utilized as best as possible since not everyone has
the same opportunities to do the same. She also has her second job as a content creator and
endorser since she likes connecting with people for outreach.
I choose my sister as my object of research because she is my role model. Having a
hardworking sister really inspiring and motivating me since it can encourage me to strive for my
own goals and work towards achieving my full potential. Watching her work hard and achieve
success show me that anything is possible with dedication and effort. Having an independent
sister also teach me the importance of self-reliance and encourage me to take ownership for my
own life and teach me to take decisions.

I will explain more about her leadership based on the 5 major leadership traits. The first
traits will be intelligence. Intelligence refers to a person’s ability to express themselves clearly
and concisely to others. Having an intelligence in perceptual and reasoning capabilities might
able to recognize patterns, identify, make connections between different types of information to
think logically and solve problem effectively. My sister always provides the most logic reason
for the other employees so they able to understand why she choose that decision. The second
traits are self-confidence. Self-confidence refers to a person’s belief in their own abilities,
qualities, and judgement. It is characterized by a positive and assured attitude towards oneself
and one’s abilities which can lead to greater success and achievement in various domains of life.
My sister’s self confidence can be seen through her communication skills talk about the problem
smoothly, and how she able to talk confidently on giving instructions. The third one is
determination. Determination refers to person’s persistent and effort to achieve a goal, even in
the face of challenges and obstacles. My sister always has a strong sense of purpose, motivation,
and perseverance, which can help other individuals to overcome difficulties and achieve success
in various domains of life. When she got a lot of endorse offers, she likely to finished it before
the deadline that they set so that she can do other things that she required to. The fourth one is
integrity. Integrity refers to person’s adherence to moral and ethical principles which is honesty,
fairness, and consistency in their actions and interactions. My sister would prefer the bitterness
of honesty than the sweetness of lies. She really hates people lied, even though the one who lied
to her were employees who always had good work performance. And the last one is sociability.
Sociability refers to a person’s tendency to seek out and enjoy social interactions by being
around of people engaging conversations and group activities and ability to maintain
relationships with others. As I said before, her second job is content creator that require her to
interact and communicate with people (her followers) in various social media outlets, or even in
real life. She also requires to talk and build relationship with her employees since she is the
branch head of the company.

According to Katz (1955), leaders must process certain technical skills that assist them in
optimizing managerial performance. While these three broad skills categories encompass a wide
spectrum of capabilities, each category describes the way in which these skills interact with
management at various levels.

There are three- Skill Approach that I will discuss: technical skills, human skills, and
conceptual skills. Technical skills refer to the ability to perform specific tasks or activities that
require specialized knowledge, training, or expertise. These skills are typically job-specific and
related to a particular industry. Human skills refer to the ability to work well with others and
interact effectively in social and organizational contexts. These skills involve communication,
teamwork, leadership, and conflict resolution. Human skills are important for building
relationships, motivating employees, and creating a positive and productive work environment.
Conceptual skills refer to the ability to think abstractly, to understand complex issues and ideas,
and to see the big picture. These skills involve critical thinking, problem-solving, strategic
planning, and decision-making. Conceptual skills are important for identifying opportunities and
challenges, developing innovative solutions, and making effective decisions that align with
organizational goals. Effective leadership require a combination of technical, human, and
conceptual skills to succeed in their goals. Technical skills enable leaders to understand the
technical aspects of their industry and to make informed decisions based on technical knowledge.
Human skills help managers to interact effectively with employees, customers, and other
stakeholders and to build strong relationships. Conceptual skills enable leaders to think
strategically and to develop long-term plans and strategies that are aligned with organizational
goals. As a branch head, my sister responsible for managing the financial operations, she needs a
financial management such as budgeting, forecasting, accounting, and overseeing project for her
technical skills. For the human skills and conceptual skills, my sister needs to communicate
effectively with her team and she is responsible for leading and managing. Strong leadership
skills such as the ability to motivate, inspire, and guide can build a high-performing team.
Emotional intelligence involves the ability to recognize and manage her own emotions, as well
as the others’ emotions. As a branch head, she needs to navigate challenging situations or
conflicts, such as empathy, self-awareness, and conflict resolution that can help her to manage
the situations effectively. The specific human skills that are most valuable will depend on the
situations, background, and how her providing guidance support to build a high-performing
team.

Based on research conducted by Mumford, etl.al (2000) this model has three-skills
components: individual attributes, competencies, and leadership outcomes. It also suggests
that career experiences and environmental influences feed into these skills. General cognitive
ability known as general mental ability that is abroad construct that encompasses a person’s
overall intellectual ability. As a branch head, my sister requires to solve complex problems and
make difficult decisions based on information from various sources. She needs to think
strategically and ability to use reasoning problem-solving skills to identify and analyze her
problems by recall the important information quickly and accurately. Crystallized cognitive
ability refer to a person’s accumulated knowledge and experience which is reflected in general
knowledge and comprehension of reading material. As a branch head, my sister needs to have the
ability to effectively communicating, leading her team, making sound business decisions, and
adapting to her changing business environment. Motivation is a key component of achieving
success and accomplishing goals. As a branch head, it is really played a key role in the success
since she need to put a lot of effort to achieve and persist in the face of obstacles. If she lacks of
motivation, she may struggle to maintain her efforts and might more likely to give up. She must
create a supportive team culture that can help to foster a sense of camaraderie and shared purpose
among the team to maintain motivation and engagement over long term. Personality refers to
the unique set of characteristic, traits, behaviors, and patterns of thought that define and
individual from others. As a branch head and as my sister. I believe she has a good personality
that would encompass a range of traits and behaviors that would enable her to effectively lead
and manage her team. She is a good listener and able to inspire and motivate me and provide
guidance support as needed. Problem solving is a critical skill for any brand head, it involves
identifying, analyzing, and resolving problems and issues that arise while managing the brand’s
operations and serving its clients. As a branch head, my sister needs to clearly define what the
problem is and what the root causes might be before attempting to solve a problem. She requires
to gathering all the information, asking, and analyzing data to gain a deeper understanding of the
issued at hand. Social judgement is an important skill for a branch head, as it involves the
ability to understand and navigate complex social situations and relationships. As a head branch
my sister should be able to understand and appreciate the different perspective. She is always
aware of and sensitive to cultural differences from different backgrounds. She needs to be
respectful of the different cultures and being willing to learn and adapt as needed. Social
judgement effective for her as a branch head to involved a combination of emotional intelligence,
cultural awareness, relationship-building skills, and ethical behavior. She has been a successfully
branch head by applying skills that help her to interactions with others by build strong
relationships with people, especially her team. Knowledge refers to person’s level of
understanding or awareness about concept. It can be acquired through education, training,
experience, observation. Knowledge encompasses both theoretical and practical understanding
and can be used to inform decision-making, problem-solving, and innovation. It is often
considered a valuable trait because it enables individuals to make informed choices, identify
opportunities, and develop expertise in respective concept. As a branch head, she has fulfilled the
qualified of having a knowledge to manage her duties and create a good work environment by
communicate with the team with the involves skills. Performance is a results or outcomes of an
individual, team, or organization’s efforts towards achieving specific goals or objectives. It
involves assessing and evaluating the effectiveness and efficiency of the actions taken, strategies
and implemented to achieving the desired results. As a branch head, she must comply with legal
and regulatory requirements and manage risks associated with their operations. The performance
of her duties can be evaluated based on her ability to ensure compliance and minimize risks.

In conclusion, I choose my sister as my object research is because she can influence,

create, manage her team into the right direction by encourage her team. She is independent and
hard working to live her life by having a good relationship with people and confidently lead
people into the right direction. She able to understand her team and able to change the
environment to achieve a good work environment. She motivates her team so that the team will
have a motivation to achieve a common goal. Even though she was my sister, I really respect her
as a human being. I am very proud to see her to achieve a good position and currently fighting
for her master degree in her relatively young age, 23. I truly believe and agreed that my sister has
a great leadership skill and met all the criteria because not everyone can be like her in that
relatively young age.
