1. From the reading materials (Lathe Machine Safety) on item 8: Basic Machinery Parts and Hazards, Explain
briefly the three fundamental areas such as the following:

a. Point of operation

b. Power of transmission

c. Operating controls

2. Explain how potential or primary hazards of lathe machines may happened to an operator?

The primary hazards of lathes are contact with rotating parts and contact at the point of
operation. An operator can be pulled into the lathe from working too close, or wearing gloves,
loose clothing, loose hair, or jewelry. Trapping spaces are also created between the cutting tool,
its mounting, and the workpiece or chuck. Projected parts or material such as chuck keys,
unsecured workplace, flying chips and coolant also strike or present hazards to the operator. So
that the operator of the lathe machine will cause accident.

3. How to prevent injuries and amputations in relation to the lathe machines?

To prevent injuries in using lathe machine we need to follow the proper PPE attire like proper
use of safety eye glasses, Always wear closed toe shoes that protect the top of your foot, Long
hair needs to be tied up or put into a bun and true understanding the all safety precaution and
reading and when we use the lathe machine don’t leave while the machine are operated or
moving to avoid accident when we are operating in machine shop.

SAFETY PRECAUTIONS I
Be sure the work and holding device are firmly attached.

Stop lathe before making any measurements, adjustments, or cleaning.

If work must be repositioned or removed from the lathe. Move cutting tool clear of work to prevent
any accidental injuries.

Chips are sharp. Do not attempt to remove them with your hand when they become “stringy” and

5. As an operator of the lathe of the lathe machine, how do you protect yourself from hazards?

As an operator of lathe machine I can protect may self from hazard by following the proper procedure by familiaris the different
parts of the lathe machine by reading also the rules and (PPE) proper safety attire that needed in machine shop for example
safety eye glasses and coverall attire.
