B2 ESSAY

MODEL 1

Doing Sports outside is better than doing sports inside. What do you
think?
Notes Write about: 1. which is more enjoyable
2. which is cheaper
3. ……………. (your own idea)

Most people would agree that doing any kind of sport is important for our
well- being. However, some people will opt for outside sports, whereas
others might enjoy indoor sports more. So, which is better?

Doing outdoor sports can be fantastic in the summer when the weather is
warm and pleasant, provided it is not too hot. But once the chilly weather
of winter arrives, indoor sports definitely seem more attractive to many
people.
Nevertheless, young people, in particular, will not be put off by the
weather
when it comes to popular sports such as football.
A disadvantage of indoor sports, though, is that there is usually a cost
involved, such as entrance fee or equipment hire, while many outdoor
sports can be enjoyed for free, for example swimming. This may influence
some people’s decision about which is better.

All told, the important thing to remember is that playing sports is good
for
our health. There is no doubt that, if more people participate and demand
sport facilities, we will have a wider range of sports available to us and,
naturally our health will improve.
B2 ESSAY MODEL 2

Read the task and answer the questions that follow:

In your English class you have been talking about the importance of achieving high
grades at school. Now your English teacher has asked you to write an essay Use all
the notes and give reasons for your point of view.
Notes
Write about:
1. motivating students
2. developing character
3. ………………..(your own idea)

It is common knowledge nowadays that schools all over the world give
different kinds of prizes to their students, in order to reward their
academic excellence. But is this a good idea or not?

On the one hand, awards are known to motivate students. Most young
people are competitive and will work hard so that they can win a prize. On
the other hand, many people would argue that by rewarding students with
top grades, the schools are emphasizing academic achievement over
character development. In my opinion, students should also be rewarded
for their achievements in other areas, such as sports or doing voluntary
work for the community.

Another point to consider is fairness to all students. In other words, some

people can score high marks in tests without studying, whereas others
may try really hard but still not achieve good results. Students with
learning difficulties, for example, would have little chance of winning such
awards.

All in all, I believe schools ought to find ways to include, motivate and
reward all their students, and not just those who achieve the higher
grades.
