Proofex Ancillary Products Background
Ras Az Zawr Aluminium Complex is the largest of its kind
 Execution : June 2011 in the world, which is a joint venture between the Saudi
Date Mining Company, Ma’aden, and Alcoa. The complex
comprises of Alumina Refinery, Aluminium Smelter, Rolling
Mill and all related infrastructure.

Project Task
The four Gas Treatment Centres are one of the Smelter’s
significant buildings; the foundations of which have to be
well vapour and waterproofed. A high quality membrane
that can be pre-applied and at the same time adhere to the
concrete structure have to be used. The membrane has to
ensure excellent protection for the structure against water,
gases and other unwanted soil elements.

Constructive Solutions
Along with the technical support and application, time
constraints played a very important role in restricting the
whole plan and implementation. Therefore, the proposed
material had to be robust enough and easy to apply.

In order to meet with the structural requirements and the

contractor’s construction schedule, Fosam proposed its
high-performance pre-applied waterproofing membrane,
Proofex Engage. The use of Proofex Engage was very
pragmatic and its application was extremely robust. The
membrane was laid onto the formwork and the blinding
concrete, and watertight overlaps were maintained using
the waterproof adhesive at the membrane selvedge.
Proofex Engage, having a ribbed surface face, ensures a
mechanical bond to the concrete foundation, acting as a
one entity with the whole structural elements, and
protecting it against water and gases.

Value to Client
The system provided by Fosam was the appropriate
solution for the client, for it met with the site requirements
while giving the contractor a peace of mind during the
application. Fosam’s continuous support and supervision
were appreciatively of great value.
