Background
Ras Al-Kher Ma’aden Aluminium Complex is the largest of
its kind in the world, which is a joint venture between the
Saudi Mining Company, Ma’aden, and Alcoa. The complex
comprises of Alumina Refinery, Aluminium Smelter, Rolling
Mill and other related infrastructure.

Project Task
The Slitter Pit is a structure that goes 20m below the
ground level, where a huge Slitter Machine will be installed.
The pit was constructed using Steel Sheet Piling.

Site Conditions:

 Water level: -5m (15m below water level)

 Water pressure: 20 Ton/m3
 Type of Water: Sea Water
 Type of Soil: Loose sandy soil
 Installation: No Work space
Concrete walls to be poured in 5 stages

With these critical parameters, selecting the right water-

proofing system was a real challenge and had to be done
carefully.

Constructive Solution
Among the three options that the client had, namely: Bituminous membrane, PVC membrane and Proofex Engage
system, Proofex Engage was chosen for the following advantages:

Supercast SW30 and Supercast PVC Watafoil were installed in the construction joints.
