E: OK. Now, first of all, I’d like to ask you some questions about yourself. Can
you tell me about your study?
C: I study in Vung Tau high school, which is one of the top 10 schools in Vung
Tau City. I’m in grade 11th, and I’m major in Math, literature, and English.
E: Why did you choose English as your major? Why did you choose that major?
C: The reason why I chose this major is because I want to speak with foreigners in
a professional way. Besides, I plan to work for a cross-country company in the
future so I think being proficient in English can help me a lot when applying for
that position.
Future
Make friends worldwide

C: As I said earlier, I plan to work for a foreign company in the future since I’m
gonna make a lot of money from it. However, I intend to take a gap year to travel
and work for some companies to acquire as much life experience as possible which
is really beneficial for my job.

E: Let’s move on to talk about your childhood. Where did you grow up?
C: I was born and raised in Vung Tau City. It is a coastal city located in the
southeast of Viet Nam, which is really famous for tourism and seafood.

E: Where did you usually play?
C: As far as I can remember/ If my memory serves me right/ To the best of my
recollection, I used to play with my friends at the open space located near my
house. But unfortunately, it has turned into BR-VT university, and I can no longer
have a chance to see it again.
E: Let’s move on to talk about housework. Who usually does the housework in
your family?
C: To be honest, because both of my parents go to work so we have to hire a
housekeeper to do the housework every 3 days of the week. Sometimes, when the
housekeeper is busy, me and my older brother have to do the housework.
ask
E: What do you think is the most important household task?
C: I have to admit that I rarely do chores in my house so I have no idea when it
comes to the most important household task. However, if I have to pick one, I
think sweeping and mobbing the floor would be the most important one since I
would feel more comfortable living in a house with a clean floor.
I’m the main cook in my house because not only I love cooking, but I also want to
share the housework with my parents since they are both busy working from 9 to 5.

Honestly, I’m totally clueless when it comes to sport since I’m not a big fan of it.
But if I have to pick the most popular one, I’d definitely go for swimming.
Basically, you need to go to places that have water so that you can swim in. For
example, swimming pools and beaches. I personally prefer to swim in the sea
because it’s totally free and I just simply enjoy the vibe when everyone is doing the
same activity there.
Swimming is suitable for all ages, but those who suffer from water phobia would
have a hard time trying to overcome their fear before they can actually swim.
Swimming is popular in my country for many reasons. Firstly, it is considered as
one of the most important survival skills to prevent people from drowning. Since
2010, swimming has become part of the curriculum, not only because it helps
people to stay in shape, but also to save their lives, as well as the others’. Secondly,
swimming is exciting and enjoyable, I mean, nothing can help lowering the
temperature better than swimming in the sea, especially in these summer days.
Finally, swimming is really easy to learn. It took me about a month to master
breast stroke and back stroke.
Despite the fact that I’m not a sport avid, but swimming is like my religion. Every
weekend, I try to spare time to go swimming, you know, to keep fit and relax after
a hard-working week. However, it’s a shame that due to the covid19 lockdown, I
cannot go to the beach now as usual. Therefore, I hope that by the end of this
month, the quarantine would be completed so that I can go swimming again.

Well-equipped (adj)

Part 3:
E: Can you describe the typical ways people in your country get involved in
sports?
C: As far as I know, people in my country usually play sports in the park or in the
stadium. Regarding the former, people who choose to play sports in there because
it’s totally free and the air in there is fresh thanks to the green space it has to offer.
About the latter, people can enjoy greater sense of privacy as you have to pay to
use the stadium. Not to mention these stadiums are usually well-equipped, making
them feel more professional when playing sports there.

E: Do you think that children should start sports at a very early age?
C: I think it’s definitely helps children a lot if they have a chance to start playing
sports as soon as they can. The first reason for this is because sports can help
children develop more effectively in terms of physical health, and boost their
immune system which makes them less vulnerable to many common illnesses.
Secondly, playing team sports can allow children to get to know more people and
make friends with other more easily rather than playing computer games or
watching TV at home.
- boost their self-esteem/confidence
- acquire soft skills (team-work, leadership)
Physically incapable of doing sth
Physical incapacity (n)
No. Because children at this age are more likely to get injuries when playing sports
since they lack fundamental knowledge about how to protect themselves properly.
Children should learn to prepare themselves for the upcoming academic years. If
they are addicted to sports, they are likely to be shocked when entering primary
school.

E: Why are sports very important to people?

E: How do you see sports in about 20 years’ time?
C: In the next 20 years, I think sports will shift towards e-sports. This is because
online games have gained popularity in recent years thanks to the widespread
coverage of the Internet and the proliferation of technological devices. As a result,
people prefer to play online games rather than participating in traditional sports. In
my opinion, the competitions of e-sports can be regarded as competitive as the
traditional ones since e-sports require the participants to utilize their brain and eye-
hand co-ordination professionally. Therefore, with the rising popularity of gamers
nowadays, in the near future, e-sports will be one of the worldwide most worth-
participating sports.
E: Thank you very much. That is the end of the interview. Good-bye.
C: Goodbye
