APTIS Writing Practice – Paper 7

OUTDOORS CLUB
Task 1. You want to join an outdoors club. You have 5 messages from a member of the club. Write short
answers (1-5 words) to each message. Recommended time: 3 minutes.

1. What’s your favourite time of the year? My favourite time is Tet holiday.
2. What’s your job? I am a teacher.
3. What’s your favourite sport? My favourite sport is volleyball.
4. What’s your favourite colour? My favourite colour is blue.
5. What do you like to do in your free time? I like reading.
Task 2: You want to join the Outdoors Club. Fill in the form. Write in sentences. Use 20-30 words.
Recommended time: 7 minutes.
What activities do you like doing outside?

I like a variety of outdoor activities, including sports, team-building, and camping. Outdoor
activities help me lead a healthy lifestyle and provide a golden chance to tighten the bonds.

Task 3: You are talking to other members of the club in the chat room. Reply to their questions. Write in
sentences. Use 30-40 words per answer. Recommended time: 10 minutes.
Jean-Paul: I like to be outside, even if the weather is bad. Tell me about a time when you did an activity
outdoors in bad weather.

Last summer, I had a team-building on the beach with my classmates when it was rainy. We had
a lot of fun activities at the beach despite the unexpected rain. It was the most enjoyable and
unforgettable experience of my life.

Jermaine: I like going for long walks. It’s my favourite activity. What advice would you give to someone
who wants to start doing this?

Even though walking is a very basic exercise, those who want to go for long walks should take
notes. First, beginners should just walk a short distance and bring enough water to prevent
dehydration. Furthermore, it would be better to walk with a friend because it will keep them
motivated.

Indira: Children today spend so much time indoors. This isn’t good for them. What can we do to make
children spend more time outside?

It is obvious that today's kids would rather play video games and watch TV than spend time
outside. I believe that parents and the school should plan more a variety of fun outdoor events,
such as camping or picnics, with lots of engaging games to encourage them to go outside.

Task 4: You are a member of the Outdoors Club. You received an email from the club’s manager.
Dear Member,
The Outdoors Club is planning to organise a trip for its members in the summer and we would like to ask
you for help. Some people have suggested that we go to the mountains and others have suggested that we go
to the coast. We want as many of our members as possible to participate, including children and elderly
people. Which of these do you think would be the most suitable, and why? Please send your reply by email.
The Manager
Question 1: Write an email to a friend, who is also a member of the club. Tell your friend what suggestions
you will make and why. Write about 50 words. Recommended time: 10 minutes.
Howdy partner!
I just got an email asking for our suggestions for a trip in the summer. How exciting! I tend to
think that that organizing a beach trip would be a great idea to draw the largest number of
members involved as possible. That is because a trip to the coast does not require the
participants to have extreme physical fitness; therefore it is appropriate for both adults and
children. In addition, the beach is a great location to host interesting outdoor activities like kite
flying and boat racing. Agree?
Must dash now. Remember to reply soon!
See ya,
Trang

Question 2: Write an email to the manager of the club. Tell the manager your suggestions and give your
reasons for making them. Write 120-150 words. Recommended time: 20 minutes.

Dear Sir/Madam,
I greatly appreciate your email asking my suggestions on how to get our members of all ages to
participate in a trip in the summer. In my narrow-minded view, I believe it is a wonderful idea to
organize a trip to the coast. In contrast, I strongly disagree with the idea of going to the
mountains.
The reason why I boldly propose these opinion lie in the right afterward advantages. First, a trip
to the coast does not require participants to be in outstanding physical condition, making it
appropriate for both adults and children. Next, the beach is a great location for outdoor activities
like kite flying, boat racing or aerobics that are suitable for everyone, including kids, teenagers,
and seniors. Furthermore, people who are physically unfit, especially the elderly and young
children, may find it difficult to enjoy a vacation to the mountains because they will probably be
exhausted and fatigued.
I hope my suggestions will be seriously taken into consideration. Please notify us as soon as you
have reached your decision.
Yours sincerely,
Nguyen Huyen Trang
