FRIGOSCANDIA Freezer Division April 1980 * GYROFREEZE Compact General Description 1. Infeed 6. Evaporator coil 2. Outfeed 7. Electric control panel 3. FRIGOBELT spiral 8. Belt washer and dryer 4. Belt take-up unit 9, Belt drive motor GYROFREEZE Compact is a further development of the spiral belt principle by the introduction of the new unique FRIGOBELT developed and patented by Frigoscandia. GYROFREEZE Compact retains the basic features of the original GYROFREEZE, i.e. 2 continuous In-Line-Belt Freezer designed to ensure fast freezing, low weight loss and gentle handling of the product. The GYROFREEZE Compact can handle any product that will lie on an open mesh at a slight angle of inclination. That definition covers a very broad range of products including: most shapes and preparations of meat and fish products, chicken parts, prepared foods, bakery products, ice-cream, fruit juice concentrates, etc. Manual | FRIGOSCANDIA 0046-0-002-c || 2/4 Freezer Division April 1980 * GYROFREEZE Compact The GYROFREEZE Compact offers possibilities for extension of the product range. Even lightweight pieces, and shapes such as cylinders and spheres, are conveyed safely and easily through the closed freezing zone, which is designed so that products cannot be tumbled off the belt by the airblast. Products are fed directly from the production line onto the FRIGOBELT and are immediately transported into the freezing zone. The belt and its side links, together with the belt tier above, form a closed space for the products, which are transported upwards in the spiral. The belt tiers do not move relative to each other and there are no rail supports etc. in the product zone. From the top of the spiral the belt runs out through the freezer enclosure and is bent over rollers allowing the frozen products to leave the belt gently. From the outfeed the empty belt returns to the infeed end via a belt tensioning device which takes up variations in belt length due to temperature changes etc. Most products maintain their position relative to the belt throughout the whole freezing process. This feature allows simultaneous freezing of different products without mixing and simplifies automatic packaging after freezing. Very light products that may blow off the belt in an ordinary spiral freezer will stay within the enclosed freezing zone of the FRIGOBELT and not hazard the function of the freezer. The unique feature of the FRIGOBELT is the raised side-links which are designed so that the belt can be stacked in a number of tiers directly on top of each other without rails or runners. 8y keeping one edge of the belt stretched whilst telescoping the other, the belt is also bent sideways. These features are used to form the self-stacking spiral in which the product travels through the freezer. The all stainless steel FRIGOBELT spiral is the only part in contact with the product. Orive System The GYRoFREEZE Compact is equipped with a special drive system patented by Frigoscandia. The belt stack is supported and driven by a number of trolleys which are flexibly connected to each other in a circular train. They run on rails which slope upwards to match the pitch of the spiral in about 3/4 of the circle and then descend under the infeed rail. Tne trolley train is driven by chain transmission from an electrical motor. The bottom tiers of the belt spiral are guided by an idler ring on the inside and the rest of the spiral is guided by vertical idler rollers. FRIGOSCANDIA Freezer Division Manual 0046-0-002-C April 1980 GYROFREEZE Compact In order to ensure maximum flexibility, the belt speed - determined by the required holding time - can be varied within a wide range. The speed of the belt is electronically regulated and simply adjusted by turning a knob on the control panel. ‘Safety Devices The drive system includes safety switches which stop the drive motor if the driving forces should for any reason rise above permitted level. When running soft and sticky products there are safety devices to prevent damage to the belt. For protection against oversized products, a product height limiting device is positioned across the belt at the infeed. GYROFREEZE Compact can be interlinked with other machines in the production line. A multi-pass turbulent air flow system is obtained in the GYRoFREEZE Compact by channelling air vertically downwards through multiple belt tiers in series. The fan positioned below the evaporator circulates air through the coil to the upper section and into the spiral. Guided by the duct and formed by the raised sides of the belt links, the air flows downwards through the belt tiers and returns to the fan. The evaporator coils are made of finned tubes, hot dip galvanized after manufacture. The fin spacing, which varies with the depth of the coil, is wide at the air inlet and narrow at the outlet. This ensures an even frost build-up without detriment to the air flow. The coils are furnished with liquid and suction headers and arranged for pump circulation of the refrigerant. On request, arrangements. are made for gravity feed. Standard defrosting is carried out by means of hot gas. As an option, the evaporators can be equipped for water defrosting. The insulated enclosure and floor has a core of foamed polyurethane with an internal and external facing to meet high requirements of hygiene as well as to allow easy and proper cleaning. Electrical floor heating cables are delivered with the insulated floor, to be cast into the concrete base. The base can be prepared directly on the factory Floor, or excavated if required. Manual SN FRIGOSCANDIA 0046-0-002-C 4/4 at, i Freezer Division April 1980 * GYROFREEZE Compact Access to the freezer is provided by insulated doors with electrically heated gaskets. Insulated walls, ceiling and floor are fully sealed and the interior of the freezer can be hosed down entirely for thorough cleaning. The freezer requires a prepared concrete base furnished with an electrical floor heater mat and adjacent drains. The base can be prepared directly on the factory floor or excavated if required. The floor is well insulated by factory made panels or built on site with an all-welded galvanized steel top plate. The floor has a slight slope towards drainage outlets at one side. Suppor and Platform The internal support for platform, evaporator coils, fans etc. is made of galvanized steel. The belt spiral frame, placed symmetrically in relation to the enclosure, is also manufactured from galvanized, easy-to-clean sections. The internal platform divides the freezer into two sections with different air pressures in order to force cold air through the spiral. The platform Fits close to the coil unit, enclosure walls and air ducting and has a minimum space to the belt spiral. Admittance to the upper section for inspection, cleaning, maintenance etc. is through a hatch, by means of a fixed access ladder. Electrical Equipment (optional) The electrical equipment consists of an electrical control panel, emergency stop push buttons and lighting. The control panel, mounted on the outside of the insulated enclosure, is equipped with a main isolating switch, switches, fuses etc. For safety reasons, a wire-operated emergency stop is placed inside the freezer.
