Post Rehearsal or Lesson Reflections

Content Adjustment: Based on diagnostic and formative assessments during today’s lesson/rehearsal, list any repertoire
or activities that were omitted from the plan. Why? Will the omitted items need to be included in tomorrow’s
lesson/rehearsal?

Nothing was omitted from the plan.

Rehearsal or Lesson Adjustment: If you were going to re-teach today’s lesson/rehearsal, how would you have done it
differently.

If I were to reteach this lesson, I would have liked to focus more on intonation. There were several spots
where the intonation was not great, so I think if I took more time at the beginning to tune it would have
gone better.

Reflection on Teaching: Analyze and evaluate your lesson/rehearsal and classroom management.
This was the day of my second observation from Mr. Dupuis. I started the lesson by immediately having the students play
Singletary #1 after announcements. I talked about taking good breaths throughout and focused on good releases. I then
moved to breathing gym. I focused on the shape their mouths should make when they breath in and out. I walked around
as they were doing this and noticed that one student was not participating. I stood next to her and tried to encourage her
to participate. She eventually did it, but she was not putting in a lot of effort. I moved on for the sake of keeping the rest of
the class engaged, but I will need to think of some ways to get her to get more engaged with class. We did breathing gym
to a song and I watched their mouth shape when breathing and gave feedback. We then moved to the Kabalevsky Suite
Mvt 2. I focused on getting good balance and intonation throughout. I isolated a few sections and had them play their
notes and tune which helped a lot. There were some pitch problems that were addressed as well. I also focused on making
sure they pushed through the half notes all the way to beat one to make more complete phrases. Mr. Dupuis then came up
and gave the students some feedback and worked with the low brass on some of the pitches and intonation.
