Activity No. 1
“ORGAN, SYSTEMS, AND ORGANIZATION OF THE BODY”

I. Objectives
 Define anatomical position, and use directional terms to locate the position of one boy
part relative to another.
 Explain the three kinds of body planes used to study human anatomy.
 Name the location of the major body cavities and sub-cavities, and indicate important
organs in each.
 Correlate organs to organ systems and relate them to their functions.

13. Sacral: area between the hips
14. Scapular: scapula or shoulder blade area
15. Sural: calf or posterior surface of the leg
16. Vertebral: area of the spinal column

c. Study the terms below. Label Figure 2 with the directional terms from the list.
1. Anterior: in front of 4. Posterior: behind
2. Distal: far from 5. Proximal: close to
3. Inferior: below 6. Superior: above
d. Label the planes in Figure 3a and the sections in Figure 3b with the terms given
below.
1. Frontal or coronal plane 4. Sagittal plane
2. Longitudinal 5. Transverse or horizontal plane
3. Oblique

e. Label Figure 4 below using the terms provided below.

1. Abdominal cavity 5. Pelvic cavity
2. Cranial cavity 6. Thoracic cavity
3. Diaphragm 7. Vertebral canal
4. Mediastinum

f. Draw lines on Figure 5a separating the abdominopelvic cavity into quadrants and
label the quadrants.
g. Draw lines on Figure 5b separating the abdominopelvic cavity into regions and label
the regions.
h. Identify the organs found on each organ system provided in the data. Note that there
are some organs that may function with more than one system.

Home Activity
a. Draw a face on the apple.
b. Cut sagittal, frontal, and transverse planes through the apple to make sagittal, frontal,
and transverse sections.
c. Keep sections together to form a whole apple.
d. Obtain a banana and cut it in such a way that you can visualize one plane that would
simultaneously divide one area of it into a longitudinal section and another area into a
cross-section.
e. Document each sections and attach the image on the data sheet provided.
f. Label appropriately.
