Activity No. 1
“ORGAN, SYSTEMS, AND ORGANIZATION OF THE BODY”
I. Objectives
Define anatomical position, and use directional terms to locate the position of one boy
part relative to another.
Explain the three kinds of body planes used to study human anatomy.
Name the location of the major body cavities and sub-cavities, and indicate important
organs in each.
Correlate organs to organ systems and relate them to their functions.
II. Materials
a. Colored pencils d. Skeleton model g. Knife
b. Marker e. Textbook
c. Banana f. Apple
III. Procedures
Labeling of Body land marksm
a. Identify and use the following anatomical terms to correctly label the following
regions on Figure 1a.
1. Abdominal: anterior body 16. Inguinal: groin
trunk region inferior to the ribs 17. Mammary: breast
2. Antecubital: front of the elbow 18. Mental: chin
3. Antebrachial: forearm 19. Nasal: nose
4. Axillary: armpit 20. Oral: mouth
5. Brachial: arm 21. Orbital: bony eye socket
6. Buccal: cheek 22. Otic: ear
7. Carpal: wrist 23. Patellar: kneecap
8. Cervical: neck region 24. Palmar: palm
9. Clavicular: collarbone 25. Pectoral: chest
10. Coxal: hip 26. Pelvic: pelvis region
11. Crural: leg 27. Pubic: genital
12. Digital: fingers or toes 28. Sternal: breastbone
13. Dorsum: top of the foot 29. Tarsal/Talus: ankle
14. Femoral: thigh 30. Umbilical: navel
15. Frontal: forehed
b. Identify and appropriately label the body surface regions in Figure 1b using the
following anatomical terms.
1. Acromial: point of the shoulder
2. Calcaneal: heel
3. Cranial: skull
4. Dorsum: back of the hand
5. Gluteal: buttocks or rump
6. Lumbar: area of the back between the ribs and hips; the loin
7. Nuchal: back of the neck
8. Occipital: posterior aspect of the head or base of the skull
9. Olecranon: point of the elbow
10. Perineal: perineum

c. Study the terms below. Label Figure 2 with the directional terms from the list.
1. Anterior: in front of 4. Posterior: behind
2. Distal: far from 5. Proximal: close to
3. Inferior: below 6. Superior: above
d. Label the planes in Figure 3a and the sections in Figure 3b with the terms given
below.
1. Frontal or coronal plane 4. Sagittal plane
2. Longitudinal 5. Transverse or horizontal plane
3. Oblique
f. Draw lines on Figure 5a separating the abdominopelvic cavity into quadrants and
label the quadrants.
g. Draw lines on Figure 5b separating the abdominopelvic cavity into regions and label
the regions.
h. Identify the organs found on each organ system provided in the data. Note that there
are some organs that may function with more than one system.
Home Activity
a. Draw a face on the apple.
b. Cut sagittal, frontal, and transverse planes through the apple to make sagittal, frontal,
and transverse sections.
c. Keep sections together to form a whole apple.
d. Obtain a banana and cut it in such a way that you can visualize one plane that would
simultaneously divide one area of it into a longitudinal section and another area into a
cross-section.
e. Document each sections and attach the image on the data sheet provided.
f. Label appropriately.
