THE EVOLUTION OF FEMINISM THROUGH THE YEARS

78% of women have suffered sexual harassment in public spaces and 90% of
young girls who have been harassed on the street say they didn’t receive any help
from those who were present. Fighting for women's rights is, for many,
synonymous of hating men and that has to end.
Feminism, by definition, is about all genders having equal rights and
opportunities, and eliminate any form of discrimination or violence against women.
Feminism is not contrary to sexism, because even today there is a wrong
understanding of the term, derived from ignorance. Sexism is a violent, dominating
and aggressive behavior of men, feminism is not it's counterpart.

In ancient times, it was considered that the woman was, throughout her life,
the property of a man. The female sex only had obligations in the home imposed
by the corresponding husband, it can be said that being a woman at that time
meant being an object of satisfaction for men. Before, women could not vote or
give an opinion, since the only one who enjoyed rights was the man.
Society has always seen women as submissive, weak and voiceless. As well
as, men are seen as the head of the family, strong and brave. It's time to see
gender as a whole, rather than a set of polar opposites. We must stop challenging
each other. We can both be free and this is what it's all about, freedom
Today's woman has many more freedom and rights. But still not enough to go
out on the street and not feel constant fear that someone might do something bad
to them, even many older people (especially in Latin America) look badly on
women who have other ambitions than being mothers. As well as being frowned
upon for deciding on their own body at the time of an abortion in the event of an
unwanted pregnancy.

Having said all of the above, the solutions to this huge problem of inequality
are many, such as, denouncing cases of sexism and harassment, demanding a
culture of equality at work, exercise your political rights, expand the number of
feminist books, and other media, teach girls how valuable they are, challenge what
it means to "be a man”. If all these solutions are applied daily, we´ll soon see the
change.
Feminism is, has been and will be a movement whose objective is to seek
autonomy for women, as well as equal rights with men. That´s why the feminist
movement continues to fight so that one day we all have the same rights.
