Modern Biology
ME – 1312

REFLECTION PAPER

I have always been fascinated of learning and studying concepts from the subject
Biology. It always puts up a thought in my mind that there really is something even more that
exists in our world or body than what we just see in the naked eye. Despite the pandemic
situation I was able comprehend biology concepts such as microbiology topics. Learning in this
Biology class setup is very effective. I was able to study the topics with ample amount of time.
Also I was able to understand concepts easily with Mam Jhen’s aid. Mam Jhen easily derives
hard to comprehend terms into easy ones and relates it into the real life which helped me a lot in
understanding biological concepts. I was able to appreciate the role of microorganisms in our life
even more. And that its importance to be studied although microscopic is just as important in
dealing with living people in macro size. Furthermore, I became refreshed of some particular
subjects I have learned from biology back then when I was in senior high school. An example of
this would be the bacteria and the virus’ difference. I was able to appreciate this topic even more
and learned that though they are harmful they also provides good benefits to us people. As I learn
more about the bodies’ defense mechanisms I became more aware of my body’s well-being or
health as well and understand that our body is composed of different biological components that
works together just to fend off foreign organisms that happen to cross inside our body to harm it.
My mind became more open in biological ideas. Biological technologies as well came across my
mind when we are dealing with the topic of Applied Genetics. I was amazed to its applications
and how such application are really helping a lot in our modern day may it be in our agricultural
or environmental aspects in our lives. I was even inspired that one day I might be able to make
such biological and technological applications such as the golden rice which could potentially be
able to help many people on day if proven really effective. It made me realize that just as much
as Biology is concerned in applying concepts in real life that helped a lot in our society and to
our lives as people, I can do as much as a future mechanical engineer if I can grasp and learn
concepts in this discipline diligently and truly understand it for me to apply it in the real life, and
hopefully I will be able to build a machine that would provide a lot of help in our society and
change the world as well.

If I were to be asked, what grade I would be deserving, I think 1.50 is enough grade. For
me, I pretty much did my job in understanding and studying all those topics we have tackled for
this semester in biology. And I really had a lot of interesting facts that I enjoyed venturing in
like the genetics and its applications. For me learning the concepts is really the important thing to
get here. And I believe that if I ever cross these kinds of disciplines and concepts when further
learning in mechanical engineering field it would greatly serve its value since I appreciate and
know that these topics are really essential to developing a good value in my workplace someday.
I enjoyed learning Biology and I’ll continue learning even more. My grade doesn’t matter what
I’ve learned but to how I apply what I’ve learned. But nevertheless, I need to maintain it. And
considering the effort I put into making outputs and studying the topic materials and projects that
I individually put into work I think I deserve this grade. With this biology class I was able to
really appreciate life even more. And that knowledge is not enough, you must understand it and
that applying ethics towards life is really the key to success.
