Introduction
The RS232 cable is a type of serial communication cable that allows data transfer between two electronic devices. In
this case, it allows us to connect two computers for the purpose of transferring files or other information. The RS232
cable has two ends, each with nine pins that connect to the serial ports on the computers.
Overview of wireless LAN

Definition of Wireless LAN:-A wireless local area network (WLAN) is a

type of computer network that allows devices to connect to each other
and the internet without the need for physical cables. Instead of using
cables, a WLAN uses radio waves to transmit data between devices.

Working of Wireless LAN:-WLAN works by using a wireless router or

access point to create a network that allows devices with wireless capabilities,
such as laptops, smartphones, and tablets, to connect and communicate with each
other. The router or access point acts as a central hub, transmitting data between
devices and allowing them to access the internet.

Benefits of a wireless LAN for a cyber-cafe:-

1. Mobility: A wireless LAN allows customers to use their devices

without being tethered to a specific location. They can move around the
cafe while remaining connected to the network, making it easier to work,
browse, or socialize.

2. Cost-effective: Setting up a wireless LAN can be more cost-effective

than running cables throughout the cafe. It also allows the cyber-cafe to
accommodate a larger number of customers without having to add more
physical ports.

3. Increased productivity: With wireless access, customers can work or browse

more efficiently, as they are not tied to a single location or device. This can
increase productivity and encourage customers to spend more time in the
cafe.

4. Attract more customers: Offering wireless access can attract more

customers who need to work remotely, study or simply browse the internet.
This can lead to increased revenue for the cyber-cafe.
Hardware requirements for a wireless LAN

1. Router: A router is a networking device that connects devices on a

network to the internet. In the case of a wireless LAN, the router provides
wireless access to the network by broadcasting a wireless signal that devices
can connect to. The router also manages traffic on the network and provides
security features, such as firewalls, to protect the network from unauthorized
access.

2. Access point: An access point is a networking device that extends the range of a
wireless LAN by providing additional wireless coverage. It connects to the router and
broadcasts a wireless signal that devices can connect to. Multiple access points can be
used to extend the coverage of the network and ensure that all devices can connect to the
network.

3. Network interface card (NIC): A network interface card, also known as a wireless
adapter, is a device that allows a computer or other device to connect to a wireless
network. It provides wireless connectivity to the device and enables it to transmit and
receive data
over the network.

4. Cables: Cables are used to connect devices to the router and access points that are not
wireless-enabled, such as desktop computers. They are also used to connect the router
and access points to each other, forming the backbone of the network.
Router specifications

1. Speed: The speed of a router determines how fast data can be

transmitted over the network. For a cyber-cafe serving up to 20 users, a
router with a speed of at least 1200Mbps is recommended. This ensures
that there is enough bandwidth to accommodate multiple users and data-
heavy applications, such as video streaming.

2. Range: The range of a router determines how far the wireless signal can
reach. For a cyber-cafe, a router with a range of at least 100 meters is
recommended, as it ensures that the signal can reach all corners of the cafe,
including outdoor areas.

3. Security: Security is a critical consideration for any wireless network,

especially for a cyber-cafe, which may handle sensitive information. A
router with strong security features, such as WPA2 encryption,
firewalls,
and access controls, is recommended to protect the network from unauthorized
access and prevent data breaches.

4. Management Features: A router with management features allows the

network administrator to monitor and control network traffic, set usage limits,
and manage devices on the network. This is important in a cyber-cafe
environment where multiple users and devices are accessing the network at
the same time. A router with user-friendly management features can also
simplify the process of setting up.

Examples of routers that meet these specifications:-

1. TP-Link Archer C7

AC1750 2.Netgear

Nighthawk R6700 3.ASUS

RT-ACRH13
Network interface card specifications

1. Compatibility with Access Point: The first and foremost specification to

consider when choosing a NIC for a wireless LAN is its compatibility
with the access point being used. It is important to ensure that the NIC
supports
the same wireless standard and frequency band as the access point. For example,
if the access point supports the 802.11ac standard, the NIC should also support
this standard.

2. Speed: The speed of the NIC determines how fast it can transmit data over
the wireless network. For a wireless LAN in a cyber-cafe serving up to 20 users,
a NIC with a speed of at least 600Mbps is recommended. This ensures that there
is enough bandwidth to accommodate multiple users and data-heavy
applications, such as video streaming.

3. Security: Security is also an important consideration when selecting a NIC for

a wireless LAN. A NIC with strong security features, such as WPA2
encryption, is recommended to protect the network from unauthorized access
and prevent data breaches.

Examples of network interface cards:-

Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 8265

ASUS PCE-AC88

TP-Link Archer T9E

Cable specifications

1. Length: The length of the cable required for a wireless LAN depends on the
distance between the router and access point. It is important to choose a cable
that is long enough to connect the two devices without any strain or tension, but
not so long that it introduces unnecessary signal loss or interference. For a cyber-
cafe serving up to 20 users, a cable length of up to 100 meters is recommended.

2. Type: The type of cable used for a wireless LAN is also important. The
most common types of cables used for connecting routers and access
points are Ethernet cables, specifically Category 5 (Cat5), Category 5e
(Cat5e), or
Category 6 (Cat6). Cat5e and Cat6 cables are recommended for a wireless LAN
as they provide better signal integrity and noise reduction compared to Cat5 cables.

3. Compatibility: It is important to ensure that the cable is compatible with both

the router and access point being used. For example, if the router and access
point both have Gigabit Ethernet ports, it is recommended to use a Cat5e or Cat6
cable to ensure the best possible performance.

Examples of cables

1. Cat5

2.Cat5

3.Cat6
Network topology

1. Star Topology: In a star topology, all devices in the network are connected to a central
device, such as a router. The central device acts as a hub, routing all data between the
different devices. In a wireless LAN, the central device would be the access point, and all
devices in the network would connect wirelessly to the access point. This topology is easy
to set up and maintain.

2. Mesh Topology: In a mesh topology, each device in the network is connected to every
other device in the network. This creates multiple paths for data to travel, improving
network reliability and redundancy. In a wireless LAN, the devices would be access
points,
and they would all be connected to each other wirelessly. This topology is more complex to set
up and maintain than a star topology.

3. Tree Topology: In a tree topology, devices are arranged in a hierarchical structure, with
the central device at the top, connected to a series of other devices below it. This creates
multiple paths for data to travel, but the network can become more complex as it grows. In
a wireless LAN, the central device would be the access point, and other access points
would be connected wirelessly to it.
