Polytechnic Pune(Code:0148) has completed the Micro
Project satisfactorily in Subject: Computer Networking and Data
communication for academic year 2023-24 as prescribed in the
curriculum.
1.0 Brief Introduction: this tutorial on how to connect two PCs using an
RS232 cable. This tutorial will provide you with step by step instructions on
how to connect two computers using a crossover RS232 cable.

6] Troubleshooting Advice
Introduction
The RS232 cable is a type of serial communication cable that allows data transfer between two electronic devices. In
this case, it allows us to connect two computers for the purpose of transferring files or other information. The RS232
cable has two ends, each with nine pins that connect to the serial ports on the computers.
Overview of wireless LAN
2. Access point: An access point is a networking device that extends the range of a
wireless LAN by providing additional wireless coverage. It connects to the router and
broadcasts a wireless signal that devices can connect to. Multiple access points can be
used to extend the coverage of the network and ensure that all devices can connect to the
network.
3. Network interface card (NIC): A network interface card, also known as a wireless
adapter, is a device that allows a computer or other device to connect to a wireless
network. It provides wireless connectivity to the device and enables it to transmit and
receive data
over the network.
4. Cables: Cables are used to connect devices to the router and access points that are not
wireless-enabled, such as desktop computers. They are also used to connect the router
and access points to each other, forming the backbone of the network.
Router specifications
2. Range: The range of a router determines how far the wireless signal can
reach. For a cyber-cafe, a router with a range of at least 100 meters is
recommended, as it ensures that the signal can reach all corners of the cafe,
including outdoor areas.

2. Speed: The speed of the NIC determines how fast it can transmit data over
the wireless network. For a wireless LAN in a cyber-cafe serving up to 20 users,
a NIC with a speed of at least 600Mbps is recommended. This ensures that there
is enough bandwidth to accommodate multiple users and data-heavy
applications, such as video streaming.

1. Length: The length of the cable required for a wireless LAN depends on the
distance between the router and access point. It is important to choose a cable
that is long enough to connect the two devices without any strain or tension, but
not so long that it introduces unnecessary signal loss or interference. For a cyber-
cafe serving up to 20 users, a cable length of up to 100 meters is recommended.
2. Type: The type of cable used for a wireless LAN is also important. The
most common types of cables used for connecting routers and access
points are Ethernet cables, specifically Category 5 (Cat5), Category 5e
(Cat5e), or
Category 6 (Cat6). Cat5e and Cat6 cables are recommended for a wireless LAN
as they provide better signal integrity and noise reduction compared to Cat5 cables.

Network topology
1. Star Topology: In a star topology, all devices in the network are connected to a central
device, such as a router. The central device acts as a hub, routing all data between the
different devices. In a wireless LAN, the central device would be the access point, and all
devices in the network would connect wirelessly to the access point. This topology is easy
to set up and maintain.
2. Mesh Topology: In a mesh topology, each device in the network is connected to every
other device in the network. This creates multiple paths for data to travel, improving
network reliability and redundancy. In a wireless LAN, the devices would be access
points,
and they would all be connected to each other wirelessly. This topology is more complex to set
up and maintain than a star topology.
3. Tree Topology: In a tree topology, devices are arranged in a hierarchical structure, with
the central device at the top, connected to a series of other devices below it. This creates
multiple paths for data to travel, but the network can become more complex as it grows. In
a wireless LAN, the central device would be the access point, and other access points
would be connected wirelessly to it.
