4 Never enter areas or pits with mobile equipment zone restriction
5 Complete checklist while conducting pre-start equipment inspection and check equipment after use too.
6 Employees working in the vicinity of mobile equipment must wear highly visible clothing at all times.
7 Use all available resources before reversing e.g. Camera, Spotter, Physical inspections, etc.
8 Do not operate faulty mobile equipment
9 Exceeding equipment’s operational limitations is one of the causes of mobile equipment incidents
10 The use of cellphones is strictly prohibited while operating machinery
11 Adjusting the seat belt to a comfortable position reduces fatigue while driving long distances.
12 Adhere to site traffic rules (speed limits, following distances, etc.)
13 Do not attempt to operate a mobile equipment/ drive a light vehicle when under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
14 The biggest equipment has the right of way at all times.
15 Don’t tail gate, hang back and follow at a distance of at least 50m
16 Ensure that you know the appropriate emergency procedures with regards to mobile equipment.
17 Ensure that light vehicles are fitted with flashing lights and buggy whips when driving in restricted areas or pits
18 Do not operate any equipment without training or a valid permit
19 Wear reflective PPE when working near mobile equipment
20 Use chocks, ditches or trenches to keep unattended equipment stable
21 REMEMBER! Work conditions constantly change. Regularly assess your environment!
22 Maintain good housekeeping in your work area at all times.
23 Conduct brake test when operating mobile equipment
24 Light vehicles must pay special attention close to larger mobile equipment and stay out of their blind spots
25 Use appropriate equipment for the task at hand
26 Always be observant and check your blind spots when operating mobile equipment
27 Inadequate safety berms are a source of mobile equipment accidents
28 Do not transport personnel in man baskets, buckets or places not approved for transporting personnel.
29 Position all tools and materials in front of (and close to) you to avoid musculoskeletal injuries
30 Without a seatbelt, you’re very likely to hit your head and lose consciousness.
31 Never operate heavy mobile equipment if fatigued, distracted etc.
