RULES AND REGULATION

ENGINEERING CHALLENGE 2023

An Intellectual Competition among Students of Nueva Vizcaya State University

VENUE AND DATE OF ENGINEERING CHALLENGE 2023

ENGINEERING CHALLENGE 2023: The Engineering Challenge will be held on


March 23, 2023, 1:00 PM at ENGINEERING HALL, ENGINEERING BUILDING.
(TENTATIVE)

NATURE OF QUESTIONS

1. Engineering Challenge will comprise three (3) rounds. There will be ten (10)
questions in each round.
2. The 30 questions to be asked during the three (3) rounds will be divided
into objective type questions and problem-solving questions, distributed as
follows, in accordance with the subject coverage, General Sciences and
Mathematics
3. Each objective-type questions will be worth two (2) points and will be
answered within a maximum of ten (10) seconds. Each problem solving
question will be worth five (5) points and will be answered within a
maximum of two (2) minutes.

TEAM COMPOSITION

4. There will be two divisions in said competition, the Junior and Senior
Division. The Junior Division will be composed of 1 st year to 2nd year
students. The Senior Division, on the other hand, will be composed of 3 rd
year & 4th year students.
5. Participation shall be limited to two (2) members per team.
6. Entry form should be completely filled out. Deadline of submission shall be
on March 22, 2023. Late submission will not be entertained.

DEFAULTING

7. On the day of ENGINEERING CHALLENGE, all registered participating teams


should be on the venue by 1:00 PM.
8. A ten-minute grace period will be enforced after which no-show teams will
be automatically disqualified.
MANNER OF ANSWERING

9. Each team will be provided with 1 A4 size whiteboard and 2 markers for
their answers and scratch papers that will be used for their computations.
a. The final answer should be written on the Official Answer Sheet and
should be enclosed by a circle or rectangle.
b. In case the contestants need to change their answers, they shall cross
out the previous answers and rewrite the final answers, enclose clearly
by a circle or a rectangle.
c. Watchers will be assigned to ensure that no alterations are made on the
whiteboard at the end of the designated time limit.
10. Each question will be read twice.
11. Time limit starts upon cue by the Quizmaster, after the question has been
read twice
12. At the end of the time limit, one (1) member of the team should raise their
whiteboard.
a. The quizmaster will announce the correct answer and will then ask
the teams with the correct answer to remain standing while raising
their board.
13. Wrong spelling in the written answers will constitute to wrong answer.
14. In case of mathematical answers, a wrong unit will make the answer
wrong.
a. Mathematical questions with numerical answer will specify the
required degree of accuracy or number of decimal places, and failure
to comply with the same will automatically render the answers
unacceptable.
b. Further questions on accuracy of numerical answer will be referred
to the Board of Judges.
15. No deductions will be made for wrong answers or no-answer.
16. A maximum of three (3) non-programmable calculators will be allowed for
each team. Mathematical tables and conditional scratch papers will be
provided.
17. No other materials, (e.g. reference books, notebooks, etc.), will be allowed
during the contest.
18. In case of ties, either an objective type or problem solving question will be
randomly selected by the Panel of Judges from the question bank until the
tie is broken.
CLARIFICATION

Only the official participating members of each team actually on the stage
may raise question/s clarifications on the answers already given.

19. Clarifications regarding the questions and answers should be directed to


the Board of Judges only after the allotted time for the given questions, but
before reading the next question.
20. The decision of the Board of Judges will be final and irrevocable.
21.JIECEP-NVSU Chapter reserves the right to change part of the rules and
regulations to further improve the conduct of the ENGINEERING
CHALLENGE.
