4 Requirements
4.1.1 The general requirements are specified in EN 1929-1. Additionally the following requirements shall
apply.
The means of fastening the baby and child carrying facility shall comply with the requirements of 4.8, 4.9 and
8.2 of EN 71-1:1998. The fastening shall be durable. This requirement is regarded as met, when the testing
according to 5.4 is passed. The connection between the trolley and the baby and/or child carrying facilities
shall not be removable without the use of tools.
The baby carrying facility shall meet the requirements of 5.3 (including Figure 5).
Each part of the trolley designed to be occupied by a baby or child shall be fitted with the appropriate
adjustable restraint system. All straps of the restraint systems shall have a minimum width of 20 mm.
8
EN 1929-7:2005 (E)
Each baby carrying facility shall be equipped with an integral harness to restrain the baby (see 3.3.4).
In case of a basket trolley being equipped with two child carrying facilities or with one child carrying facility and
one baby carrying facility, each child carrying facility shall be equipped with a waist belt (see 3.3.3).
When tested in accordance with 5.6, the anchoring points and fastening systems of each integral harness and
each waist belt shall not break, become loose or tear away from their support.
When nesting a trolley equipped with a baby carrying facility into another trolley, either, there shall be an
indication, that the baby(s) shall be lifted out of the baby carrying facility before nesting the trolley. Or
alternatively, the baby carrying facility of the trolley being pushed forward into another, shall stay immovably
fixed in its position within its trolley throughout the nesting process.
Any toy used in conjunction with the trolley shall comply with the requirements of EN 71-1.
4.2 Stability
The trolley shall be stable in the longitudinal and transverse direction. This requirement is regarded as met,
when the testing according to 5.2 is passed.
Basket trolleys of type AKK, BK and BB shall be equipped with at least one parking device.
NOTE The parking device is needed for the safety of the unattended second child when the first child is placed into
or lifted out of the trolley.
Efficiency of the parking device is regarded as met when the test of 5.5 is passed.
5 Test
5.1 General
In addition to the tests of EN 1929-1 the complete basket trolley shall comply with the tests specified under 5.2
to 5.5. The tests shall be carried out on new trolleys. All tests must be carried out at room temperature.
The baby and child carrying facility(ies) shall comply with the tests specified under 4.8, 4.9 and 8.2 of EN 71-
1:1998.
The load simulating the child and the test device are the same as indicated in 5.4 of EN 1929-1:1998.
The load simulating the baby shall be a 12 kg steel cylinder having a diameter of 120 mm and a height of
approximately 135 mm.
9
EN 1929-7:2005 (E)
The test cylinder shall be positioned in the median plane of the baby carrying facility with its longitudinal axis
orthogonal to the longitudinal plane of the baby carrying facility. The trolley shall be on a horizontal surface so
that the test cylinder can find its final position. The test cylinder shall be secured in this position.
The arrangement and number of loads for the test in the longitudinal and lateral direction shall be taken from
Table 1.
AK 1 load (12 kg) simulating the baby 1 load (12 kg) simulating the baby
AKK 2 loads (each of 12 kg) simulating the 1 load (12 kg) simulating the baby,
babies (one in each baby carrying located closest to the tilting axis
facility)
BK 1 load (12 kg) simulating the baby and A. Testing the baby carrying facility
only:
1 load (18 kg) simulating the child
1 load (12 kg) simulating the baby,
located closest to the tilting axis
BB 2 loads (each of 18 kg) simulating the 1 load (18 kg) simulating the child
children located closest to the tilting axis
In order to determine the inclination of the back support of the baby carrying facility a testing equipment shall
be used. This testing equipment consists of a large board having the dimensions of 200 mm x 120 mm x 5
mm and a small board having the dimensions of 50 mm x 120 mm x 5 mm. At their upper surface the boards
are connected by a hinge in such a way that the testing equipment has a length of 250 mm in stretched
condition. The lowest point of the lying flat shall be determined in an appropriate way, for example by use of a
little ball.
The testing equipment shall be positioned on the back support in longitudinal direction of the baby carrying
facility in such a way that the free lower edge of the small board is situated at the lowest point, see Figure 5. In
0 0
that case the big board must show an angle α of at least 10 but less than 45 to the horizontal.

The test shall be carried out according to 5.7 of EN 1929-1:1998, however, in addition to the load in the basket,
the back support of each baby carrying facility shall be loaded symmetrically with a bag having a weight of
3
9 kg filled by gravel having a density of 1,5 kg/dm .
3
NOTE Gravel with 32/64 mm size grading has a mean density of 1,5 kg/dm .
At the end of the endurance test the parking device of the loaded trolley shall be able to operate and the
longitudinal force required to push the trolley with the parking device operating measured in accordance with
5.8 of EN 1929-1:1998 shall be more than 100 N.
Information about the safe use of trolleys according to EN 1929-7 shall be affixed to the trolleys and include
information about:
11
EN 1929-7:2005 (E)
⎯ information relating to owner and end-user responsibilities when in use, including reference to parental
responsibility not to leave children unattended.
The indication according to 4.1.5 shall be affixed to the trolley or alternatively at the trolley collecting station.
Markings shall be made from durable materials and shall be clearly visible to the users.
6.2 Labelling
The trolley shall be marked according to 6 of EN 1929-1:1998 but with the date and number of this document.
7 Maintenance
The manufacturer shall provide instructions for commissioning, use of, maintenance and repair of the trolleys
(inclusive of harnesses and other fittings), as well as the frequency of the periodic tests (at least every
six months). The trolleys should be regularly maintained by competent persons.
