DIRECT OPHTHALMOSCOPY
Best in dark room with dilated pupil (tropicamide)

Can be used for anterior segment and fundus

Remember magnification is high, therefore only small area seen at one time

Right eye for right eye and vice versa

Ask patient to look in the direction of what you are trying to see, and approach from the opposite direction

Look at OPTIC DISC (colour, contour, cup), VASCULAR ARCADES and MACULA
