Subject: ACME Front Wall Sign Recommendation Report

I recommend that we purchase an LED sign for the front wall of our office building. A neon sign
was also considered. My reasons for recommending an LED sign over a neon sign are that an
LED is more cost-effective, more practical, and offers a wider color range with programmable
color changes.

Consideration #1 – Cost

When considering all costs involved in purchasing and maintaining a front wall sign, an LED
sign is the most cost-effective choice. While the LED costs $2,000 more upfront than a neon
sign, its quarterly maintenance and utility fees are $205 less than neon. When considering this, as
well as other points in this report, in the long run these savings will more than make up for the
higher upfront cost of an LED sign.

LED Neon
Upfront cost $12,000 $10,000
Quarterly maintenance fee $125 $250
Quarterly utility cost $20 $100
Functioning temperature range -10F - 110F 12F -87F
Life expectancy of light source  5-10 years 4-5 years
Distance for legibility 400Ft 500Ft
Color range All colors Orange, white, blue
Programmable color changes Yes No

Consideration #2 – Practicality

When considering factors such as functioning temperature range, life expectancy of the light
source, and distance for legibility, an LED sign is more practical than a neon sign. The LED has
a wider functioning temperature range than neon, as well as a longer life expectancy for its light
source. Though neon has a greater distance for legibility than an LED sign, the difference is only
100 ft., and given the previous considerations of temperature range and life expectancy, an LED
sign is the most practical choice.

Consideration #3 – Color range and programmable color changes

When considering the color range of LED and neon signs, the LED is more varied than neon and
offers custom programming options. On its own, this point of consideration is not vital, but
having the option to display a wide variety of colors or custom color combinations could be
useful in certain situations for our company. Some examples of this are holiday colors (red/green
for Christmas or red/white/blue for Independence Day), rainbow for pride month, or flag colors
to show support for countries in need, such as blue/yellow for Ukraine. This color range of the
LED is great in addition to its other features.

To conclude, I recommend that ACME purchase an LED sign for our office, as it is the most
cost-effective and practical choice, with the bonus of offering a wide color range for variety.

Best,
Rachel Prather
