Abstract

Universal Basic Income (UBI) is a policy proposal in which all citizens or residents of a country
receive a regular, unconditional sum of money from the government. In Nepal, UBI is being
considered as a potential solution to address poverty, inequality, and unemployment. This paper
explores the concept of UBI, its potential benefits and challenges, and its feasibility in the
context of Nepal. The paper examines the current socio-economic conditions in Nepal and
analyzes how UBI can be designed and implemented to meet the country's specific needs. The
potential impacts of UBI on poverty reduction, gender equality, economic growth, and social
welfare are discussed, as well as the potential challenges of implementation and financing. The
paper concludes that while UBI has the potential to address many of Nepal's socio-economic
challenges, careful design and implementation will be necessary to ensure its success.

This research paper explores the feasibility and potential impact of implementing a Universal
Basic Income (UBI) program in Nepal. The study examines the current economic and social
conditions in Nepal, including poverty rates, income inequality, and the effectiveness of existing
social welfare programs. The research then investigates the theoretical underpinnings of UBI,
including its potential to alleviate poverty, promote economic growth, and enhance social equity.

Using a mixed-methods approach, including surveys and interviews with a diverse group of
stakeholders, the study assesses the practical considerations of implementing UBI in Nepal. This
includes analyzing the cost of a UBI program and identifying potential funding sources, as well
as evaluating the potential impact of UBI on different sectors of the economy, such as
agriculture, education, and health.

The findings suggest that implementing a UBI program in Nepal could have significant positive
impacts on poverty reduction, economic growth, and social equity. However, there are also
challenges and limitations to consider, such as the potential for inflation, administrative and
logistical hurdles, and cultural factors that may affect the uptake and effectiveness of the
program.
Overall, this thesis provides a comprehensive analysis of the feasibility and potential impact of
UBI in Nepal, offering insights and recommendations for policymakers and stakeholders
considering the implementation of such a program.
