READING

5 Read the article. Are the sentences true (T) or false (F)? The first one is done for you.

In November 2016, Kevin Newton’s Bus Shelter opened its doors for the first time on the Isle
of Wight in the UK. It’s actually an old double-decker bus that Kevin changed to be a place
where people can live, sleep and cook. The bus is located in the peaceful suburbs of the
island’s main town and is open 24/7. Anyone who doesn’t have anywhere to sleep can head
to the bus and expect a warm welcome.

Kevin’s goal was to make it unnecessary for people on the Isle of Wight to sleep outside.
Anyone without a place to sleep can live in the shelter for as long as they want if they’re
willing to follow the Bus Shelter’s rules. Residents are required to get help from local
agencies who help homeless people find housing and jobs. They also have to do paid or
voluntary work to keep the bus running. So far, the Bus Shelter project really seems to be
having a positive impact on the Isle of Wight. Kevin hopes that people in other parts of the
UK will start using old buses to house the homeless soon, too.

Example:
0 Kevin Newton is the first person the Bus Shelter helped. _____F_____
41 The Bus Shelter on the Isle of Wight closed in November 2016. _________
42 The Bus Shelter is a type of restaurant. _________
43 Kevin made changes to the bus so homeless people could stay there. _________
44 The people staying at the Bus Shelter can cook there. _________
45 The Bus Shelter is in the centre of the Isle of Wight’s main town. _________
46 The Bus Shelter is always open. _________
47 The people who stay on the bus can work there if they want to. _________
48 Kevin wants there to be no need for people on the Isle of Wight to be homeless.
_________
49 The Bus Shelter is having a positive effect on the lives of people on the Isle of Wight.
_________
50 People in other parts of the UK are now using old buses as homes for the homeless.
