Q. No Marks

1. What do you mean by limiting errors? A 400V voltmeter is specified to be accurate within ±
2% at full scale. Calculate the limiting error when the instrument is used to measure a 3
voltage of 150V.

2. For the given data i.e., x1 = 49.7, x2 = 50.1, x3 = 50.2, x4 = 49.6, x5 = 49.7 3
Calculate: a) Arithmetic Mean
b) Deviation of each value
c) Algebraic sum of the deviation
d) Average deviation
e) Standard deviation

3. What are the dynamic characteristics of an instrument? Derive the dynamic response of a 4
second order instrument.
4. An electrostatically deflected cathode ray tube has plane parallel deflecting plates which are
2.5 cm long and 0.5 cm apart, and the distance from their center to the screen is 20 cm. The 5
electron beam is accelerated by a potential difference of 2600 V and is projected centrally
between the plates. (Note: e = 1.6 x 10-19C, m = 9.1 x10-31kg)
a) Calculate the deflecting voltage required to cause the beam to strike a
deflecting voltage.
b) Find the corresponding deflection of the screen
5. An electrically deflected CRT has a final anode voltage of 2000 V and parallel deflecting
5
plates 1.5cm long and 5 mm apart. If the screen is 50 cm from the center of deflecting plates.

b) the deflection sensitivity of the tube
c) the deflection factor of the tube
