SET A
QUESTION 1
a) What is the expression in time domain for electromotive force, e.m.f(t) induced in the coil, if
the generator’s coil is 150 turns and its uniform magnetic field density is 3 Tesla on a square
form with the mean area per turn is 3.6 centimetre square. The generated maximum of e.m.f
must be equal to 50V. Then, when t = 0.5s, what is instantaneous value for the electromotive
force, e.m.f(t).

a) Based on inspection and measurement using oscilloscope, the waveforms for voltage and
current of a system are presented below; note that the frequency of the waveform is 50Hz.

b) Power-factor correction (PFC) is aimed to improve the power factor, hence improving the
efficiency and power quality of the AC system on how it will help to prevent the penalty
cost of the supply current?. Design a power factor correction circuit to have the power
factor become unity. Show the details step in getting the right component value. Finally,
explain how the PFC can help to prevent the penalty cost of the supply current?
