Main Ethical Question

This study’s ethical question is ”Is the legalization of same-sex civil unions attainable in
the Philippines through its accustomed principles?” The ethical issues surrounding same-sex
civil unions have been a topic of discussion for years. Same-sex civil union proponents contend
that it will not only offer same-sex couples the same rights that heterosexual couples now enjoy,
giving them equal privileges, but it will also aid in the eradication of discrimination. On the other
hand, the opposition claims that it is not possible because the Philippines is a religious country,
and establishing same-sex civil unions would go against Catholicism’s moral doctrine of
procreation. Both parties presented convincing justifications for their positions. However, the
decision of whether or not to legalize same-sex civil unions is intricate and requires additional
further reconsideration from all involved parties. Furthermore, this issue will challenge the
ongoing stigma against same-sex relationships, and in the present, the world has various
perspectives in approaching this issue. As this issue considers a lot of aspects such as human
rights, moral beliefs, and discrimination as its basis for stance, the answer of whether or not
legalization of same-sex civil union is attainable in the Philippines through its accustomed
principles will definitely change the shape of the society and its actors.
