Re: Public Markets Co-op/Internship #209178

Dear BCI Team,

I was excited to hear of your posting for the Strategic Asset AllocationCo-op/Internship position
with BCI as posted through the University of Victoria’s job portal. I am in my second year in the
Gustavson School of Business at the University of Victoria pursuing my Bachelors degree in
commerce. In my Econ courses I learned about the essential role the financial service sector
plays in the efficient allocation of capital, hearing that BCI has a position that focuses on this
important aspect of finance piqued my interest.I found my background resonates strongly with
your posting as I am pursuing my CFA designation and have a strong passion for pursuing a
career in responsible investments (RI).

My electives and extracurricular activities are finance focused. Econ 305 familiarized me with
the world of finance. I was educated on ESG investing, capital and credit markets, balance
sheets, as well as the blueprints on how investment firms operate from asset management to
risk analysis and more. I learned about financial modeling where we applied the Gordon Growth
model, DCF model, used VAR calculations and various other models for valuing the present
value of stocks and bonds. In my intro to business management course we had a final project
that required us to research, analyze and write a report on porter's five forces, company
strategy, leadership and outlook utilizing Microsoft Word. I learned basic accounting principles
such as creating balance sheets for various companies and separating assets/liabilities utilizing
Microsoft excel.

I am also involved with a private investment club called KEG that currently has a diversified
portfolio of over $400k AUM in both Canadian and American equities. Each member is
responsible for voting and presenting monthly stock picks. This has helped me significantly to
understand various ways to choose equities, value, and make sure that capital is being used
efficiently.

I am willing to undertake new challenges and develop the skills required to be excellent and
believe that I can provide the BCI needs to thrive.

Thank you for taking the time to review my application and I look forward to meeting with you to
discuss this position in greater detail.

Sincerely,
Damon Langford
