Human Rights Class Work

Instruction: In groups of 3, go to the link below and respond to the following questions.

tribunal website and find the employment section):

1. What is the Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario?


The human rights tribunal of Ontario will decide if someone’s human rights have been
violated.

2. What is the role of the Tribunal?

If you think your rights have been violated, you can file an application directly with the
Tribunal and it will decide the best way to deal with your situation

It’s purpose is to protect humans from discrimination and it states that all canadians
have the right to equality, fair treatment and an environment free of discrimination.

3. What kinds of cases do they deal with? (List 2)


● Anti-Black racism in education
● Human rights for transgender people
4. What kind of cases do they not deal with? (List 2)
● Individual human rights complaints
● Federally regulated activities
5. How do you make a claim to the tribunal relating to work?
You can claim to the tribunal relating to workby filing an application to the Human
Rights Tribunal of Ontario. Then take your application to mediation or at a hearing
before the Tribunal. Finally, enforce an Order of the Tribunal if the Tribunal finds that
you have experienced discrimination

6. Provide a 2 minutes video on a most recent Human Rights Issue in a workplace.
