FARMER GROWS AN ENORMOUS TURNIP! Reported by Wc A Spade There was a surprise at the town vegetable show last night. Farmer Fred brought his enormous turnip to show the judges and they were shocked. It was huge! Fred said that he had planted his turnip in March, and he had worked hard to feed and water it every day. He fed it with his own homemade plant food and was pleased with how quickly it grew. Fred told us that he wanted to pull up the turnip on Tuesday so he would be ready for the show. He said he got all his sharpest spades and forks out to help with the job. He dug around the turnip and pulted and pulled but he could not mave it! Fred had to pull the turnip to the show with his tractor. It was too big to carry! Fred had to get his wife and his grandchildren to help him, but the turnip still would not move! Fred won the first prize in the biggest vegetable competition. He said that he plans to grow four enormous carrots for next year’s show.
