We burned the “old man”

In Ecuador we have the custom that to bid farewell to the year that is about to end, we burn a

sawdust or newspaper doll called “año Viejo” in the street. These puppets can be from a simple

anonymous sawdust doll, the country's president, Mickey Mouse, or any fashionable character.

Families and neighbors come together on the night of December 31 to burn their "old years"

together and welcome the new year.
