What are the causes of unemployment in Colombia?

The unemployment rate in Colombia in January was of 17,3% increased 4,3 points, Colombia in
January 2021 was among the countries with the highest unemployment in Colombia. In this
moment, the main causes of this unemployment are the pandemic, the world is in a crisis and
Colombia is one of the most affected by this and the other cause is the lack of demand for
workers. The pandemic and the lack of demand for workers produce the unemployment in
Colombia.

In the first place an the most recently we have the pandemic of covid-19, this pandemic that
begins on March 11, 2020 has hit the world in so many ways, the economy of many countries has
been affected by it, leaving many people without jobs and in dire conditions. Colombia has been
one of the most affected by this. The National Administrative Department of Statistics (Dane)
reported that, in all of 2020, the unemployment rate in Colombia closed at 15.9%, which
represented an increase of 5.4 percentage points compared to 2019 (10.5%). This pandemic
affected so much the unemployment, for this the pandemic is one of the most recently causes.

In second place we have the lack of demand for workers, this is a mismatch in the labor market,
where the supply of labor (by workers) is higher than the demand for labor by companies so we
can said that we need mor companies or persons that can create jobs but this is complicated in
Colombia but nevertheless we have to try this.

The increase of unemployment has bad impact on the people because without this the people
doesn’t have any economic entry for live or for eat and this causes, mainly the first has created a
lot of unemployment and poverty. The increase of unemployment is an effect of the pandemic and
the lack of demand for workers. In my opinion we have to create more jobs or undertake more.
