For this assignment I chose to write on the article “An Analysis of the Different Starbucks Menu Formats and Evaluating Their Accessibility” by Elizabeth King. In this article King decided to research Starbucks menus and the differences between in person menus and online menus at Starbucks locations. King highlights how narrow the in-person Starbucks menus are in comparison to the online ones, something I’ve noticed myself, and how both are designed to appeal to different types of customers. A point King makes is that online customers have more time to choose their drink and customize it whereas customers that walk-in or drive through and order want to be more efficient, therefore less options is better. The approach King takes to conducting her study is to take pictures and compare different types of menus with supporting evidence from different articles throughout. King’s visuals are presented throughout her paper and provide a very beneficial aspect to the paper by showing the menus as opposed to just discussing them. I think this article is important because it shows the differences between in person and online menus and ordering systems and how technology has changed the restaurant business forever because “technology has had a prominent impact on the accessibility of documents and texts” (King, 2020).
