Examples of Annotated Bibliographies- Good and Bad

The most noticeable difference between the good examples and bad examples is the

length of the annotations. The good examples are significantly longer and more in depth than the

bad examples and include more information. The good examples also include in text citations

after paraphrasing whereas the bad examples provide no citations. Another important aspect of

the good annotated bibliography was that the sections of the annotation were separated by titles

such as “Summary”, “Evaluation”, and “Reflection”. This makes it easier to comprehend the

annotation, another way to separate the different parts of a bibliography is by having separate

paragraphs. The bad examples have no separate sections and only have one paragraph of

annotations that do not go into depth enough to truly show an understanding of the article. The

bad annotation also used a quote but didn’t cite it at all which is technically plagiarism and can

be taken as academic dishonesty. I like how the good example separates the topics it discusses

and how it makes it significantly easier to both read but also to write. For my annotations I used

the method where I separated the two parts of my annotation into different paragraphs which is

similar to this where it makes it easy to read and analyze. Overall, the biggest difference between

the good and bad examples of annotated bibliographies are length and depth of research. If you

actually read the article there is no problem making a good annotated bibliography as long as you

have the right information and structure.
