RN to a 13 bed Medical Intensive Care Unit playing a key role to an interdisciplinary team of
Medical Doctors, Respiratory Therapists, Physical Therapists. Social Workers and RNs.
Developed ability to adapt and learn while incorporating past work experience and utilizing
multidisciplinary resources. Individualized continuum of care planning and management with
maximum efficiency by communicating pertinent patient/family information accurately and
objectively. Utilizes interdisciplinary approach to collaborate healthcare team problem solving to
yield optimum patient care outcomes through the development and implementation of individual
treatment plans for patients with an array of cardiovascular and medical illnesses. Assist with
rapid responses, codes, intubations, cardioversions, bronchoscopy, be
esophagogastroduodenoscopy, chest-tube insertions and central line insertions. Vast knowledge
in devices from external pacemakers, pulmonary artery catchers, intra-aortic balloon pump,

The primary focus of the Clinical Staff Leader is to ensure the unit’s optimal performance during
each assigned shift and within their team of direct reports by engaging in effective problem
solving for staff, patients and families and to develop/lead the assigned cohort.
The Clinical Staff Leader provides feedback and coaching to staff members, recognizing them for
their contributions while fostering a high performance culture. The Clinical Staff Leader works
collaboratively with the leadership team and staff members in assuring a patient/family focused
environment.

A 27 bed cardiovascular intensive care unit caring for a wide variety of patients ranging from
myocardial infarction lung transplant heart transplant and vascular. Daily activities involve daily
rounding with cardiac nurse practitioners and cardiac surgeons in the plan of care for each
patient. Promote patient safety and patient education. Responsible for total patient care,
including medications, orders, and execution of treatment, maintaining accurate patient clinical
records according to hospital standards, monitoring cardiac devices and continuous IV drug
manipulation. Assist with procedures at the bedside, e.g. tracheostomy, chest tube removal,
bronchoscopy, cardioversions, and intubations. Member of the Rapid Response Team (RRT) that
responds to designated step-down units. Preceptor to Nurse Residence (New Graduates) and
experience nurses new to CVICU at Vanderbilt. Delegate tasks to staff members throughout the
day. Make assignments for the oncoming shift. Change staff assignments according to the acuity
of the unit. Work closely with the management team and help with decisions that are made to
improve the unit. The devices used are as followed
