Introduction:
The plasma membrane, also known as the cell membrane, is the membrane that
divides the inside of the cell from the outside world. It is found in all cells. A cell wall
is connected to the plasma membrane on the outer surface of bacterial and plant cells.
The plasma membrane is made up of a semipermeable lipid bilayer. The plasma
membrane controls the flow of materials into and out of the cell

Aim:
The aim of this lab is to show the effect of PH, temperature and organic solvent on the
cell membrane of the beetroot.

Material:
-tools
4 test tubes every test tube is filled with a small cube of beetroot
Water bath
Beaker
Flame
dropper

-chemicals
HCL

Methods:
At first a 4 test tubes were brought with a cube of beetroot on the inside, and every
test tube had a role in every test. The first test done is the reaction of PH on the cell
membrane in this test two test tube were used the first test tube was filled with 5 ml of
water and the second test tube was filled with 5 ml of HCL. The second test is the
reaction of temperature on the cell membrane in this test three test tube were used the
first test tube is the same test tube from the other test that is filled with 5 ml of water ,
the second test tube is filled with 5ml of water then it was brought into the water path
of 50 degree Celsius for 20 minutes and the third test tube is filled with 5 ml of water
then it was brought into a beaker filled with water that was preheated to 100 degree
Celsius for 20 minutes

Results:
Figure(1) Figure (2)

Discussion:
As shown in figure (1) the HCL changes the polarity of the cell while in figure(2) the
test tube at 50 degree a degradation were made at the protein membrane while 100
degree Celsius the proteins were denaturated.
