SUMMATIVE ASSESSMENT 2 PRESENTATION AND DISCUSSION

INTRODUCTION
The report will discuss the Boeing 787 Dreamliner description, in which the report will discuss
the problem definition as per the context of the company. The report also defines the problems
like lithium-ion batteries, Unconventional Supply Chains, Carbon Fibre Technology, and the
weight of the aircraft. The report also discusses McKinsey’s strategic problem-solving model.
The identical report also discusses the research approach and the report is based on the
Qualitative research approach. The report also contains a section of findings and analysis in
which it provides the findings of the issues, and analysis provides the determination about the
issues faced by the company. The report also contains discussion and recommendations in which
it provides solutions to identical problems.

PROBLEM DEFINITION
Seven steps of problem-solving:

1. Define the problem:

Boeing 787 Dreamliner determines many of the problems, which would result in attracting the
consumers' minds and decrease the sales of the company. Many of the gaps like improperly sized
shims, improper airplane body, airplane infrastructure, fuselage uncertainty, many of skin
flatness, and many more activities represented the defects in the project 787 Dreamliner (Liu and
Li, 2022).

The Boeing 787 also represents a problem with its lithium Ion battery: The lithium-ion battery
was responsible for providing the batteries for the Boeing 787 Airplanes, which would conduct
problems The batteries supplied by the lithium Ion Battery GS Yusas were found completely
defected piece and also generated a huge amount of heat under the thermal runaway (Liu and Li,
2022).

Another main issue detected in the Boeing 787 Airlines which were the Unconventional Supply
Chain: This was delivered to the unorganized system of the company with its respective
suppliers. These all mentions were responsible for delivering all the services in airlines. It is the
most cruise and important issue which was faced by the company the delay in delivery of the

2
airlines on which the project Boeing 787 is dependent (Schmuck, 2021). The company for its
project Boeing 787 develop a connection with foreign countries company across the world such
as Spain, Japan, Italy, and many more (Gölgeci and Kuivalainen, 2020).

Another issue id identify in the project Boeing 787 was Carbon Fibre Technology: The
company's engineers were not fully sure about approving the Carbon Fibre Technology which
would result in a delay in the airplane establishment. Carbon Fibre Technology is bring served a
great challenge for Boeing engineers. The engineers faced the issue as they were not
appropriately known to use the material as per the weight of the aircraft as something the
material is heavier than the plane weight which would be creating the problem in to completely
recognizing a stable aircraft (Allawi et al., 2020).

Another problem indicated by the project is the unorganized weight of the aircraft. The
company is also being unable to establish a perfect structure for the aircraft. The main reason for
the delay in the aircraft also included the uncovered structure of the center wing box. The
weight of the aircraft is unstable and pretended to be light and should be stronger the company's
engineers can't build the wings lighter and stronger.

2. Disaggregate
 The main issues in the project are lithium-ion battery, Unconventional Supply Chain,
Carbon Fibre Technology, and weight of the aircraft center wing. These all were related
to separate categories but linked together as: supply chain is the problem of the
management department. Carbon fiber technology is the problem of the technology
department. Overweight of the entre wings is the issue of engineers. Default lithium-ion
batteries were the issues of suppliers. Applying the liability mechanism more effectively
(Batabyal, Nayak, and Tripathy, 2018).

3. Prioritize the issues

The most important problem faced by the project is the lithium-ion battery because
without a battery it's very crucial to fly. This will bring the main issue for the airplane.
Another issue is the overweight of the center wing due to which the project is being
delayed in delivery (Liu and Li, 2022).

5. Critical Analyze
The company should use Fact-based analysis. It also needs to hire an experienced workforce
for the project, which would help the company in the difficult situations faced by the
company which was mentioned above. The company needs to adopt an autocratic

4
leadership style which would help in to strictly make the work done. Along with this, the
company needs to work with different theories and strategies like stakeholders’ theories and
resource-based theory which would help the company to better practice in the marketplace
about its supply chain and internal peace of the company (Schmuck, 2021).

6. Synthesize
It is synthetically important to build a better relationship with the stakeholders and the
suppliers which would help the company to better perform and deliver their projects on time.
7. Communicate
The company also needs to increase its communication with its suppliers and resolve all the
conflicts and issues between them which would help the company to get a better
understanding of the deal. The company should need works on communication marketing
mix theory to develop better communication with its suppliers and the respective
stakeholders.

RESEARCH APPROACH TAKEN

A research approach is defined as the procedure which was selected by the researcher to analyze,
collect, and then interpret the collected data and information. The represented research is based
on the qualitative research approach (Haven and Grootel, 2019). A Qualitative research approach
is a type of research approach which would represent the secondary data, and it is already done
by someone and has been recognized by the public (O’Connor and Joffe, 2020). The most
represented benefit of quantitative research is that it minimized the ratio of being wrong in any
research as it is already done by any philosopher, or author, and someone professional (Williams
and Moser, 2019). Five general approaches would represent the qualitative research as follows:

 Grounded theory: It involved collecting data which is used to develop new theories
(Daniel, B.K., 2019).
 Ethnography theory: It involves immersing the company or any project group to better
understand the identical culture (Zilber, T.B., 2020).

5
 Narrative research: It involved interpreting the stories to better understand the people
which were represented in a good sense by their following professional perceptions and
experiences (Abkhezr et al., 2020).
 Phenomenological research: It involves the investigation of the phenomena by the people
which represented the live experience of the professionals (Umanailo, M.C.B., 2019).
 Action research: It involved the linked theories and practices which would represent the
numerous cycles of representing innovation changes (Erro-Garcés, and Alfaro-Tanco,
2020).
Qualitative research is best for the represented report because the project is being started a few
years back and latterly didn't have any data which would represent the basic things about the
company and its project Boeing 787. Thus, the research is being prepared under the overview of
the qualitative research where the report has represented the things and issues which would
identify by the professionals. The qualitative research also helped to represent the better way of
project Boeing 787 issues, and its grounded practices in better ways. The qualitative research
also helped to identify the findings related to the project Boeing 787 along with its discussion,
and analysis and also helped to provide identical recommendations for the issues. Qualitative
research also assists the report to identify and provide research and data in an appropriate
manner. The represented research also provides the action research which helped to represent the
research with the help of linked theories and represented the innovation changes for the
identified issues. Qualitative research also helped to provide better narrative research which
would represent a narrative and authentic perceptive and experience of the professionals in the
report (Basias and Pollalis, 2018).

FINDINGS AND ANALYSIS

In any type of business, customer satisfaction has always been and will continue to be important.
The formation of organizational goodwill largely depends on this segment. A similar
circumstance is with the project's Boeing's coordinated deliveries of all major parts from the
corporate's tier-1 plan of action associates, major delays have occurred. Furthermore, the impact
of the worker's strike was felt by Boeing's strategic partners like Spirit Aero systems and many
more. This partnership is known as, reducing the work of their employees who manufacture and

6
develop various Boeing components as a result of the anticipated that the strike would lead to
delivery delays and order cancellations, significantly for Boeing planes (Woo et al., 2021).

The company should need focus on its employees' hiring practices by offering high bonuses
and incentives to the employees. Additionally, the company needs to provide training to its
employees for receiving high-quality productivity. The company should need to provide better
practices for understanding its products' manufacturing which would minimize the company's
situations like its defaulted batteries, carbon situations, and many more. The company also needs
to establish more effectively worked employees, which would minimize the collaboration of the
company to manufacture its goods and minimize its flow of money to outsources. Additionally,
the company needs to find out which of the practices were done by its respective workforce to
handle its situations. Thus, the company needs to adopt an autocratic leadership style which
was used to stable its internal peace which would provide a better environment for the company
to overcome its issues. Additionally, the company has to adopt supply chain theories like
stakeholders theory and many more, which would help to provide better practices for the
supply chain (Jiang et al., 2022).

DISCUSSION AND RECOMMENDATION

The report has been discussing the issues faced by the selected company project Boeing 787
which was lacking in its services and internal practices. The report has been discussed (Scott et
al., 2022). The section on the problems of the project Boeing 787 such as the lithium-ion battery,
the Carbon Fibre Technology Unconventional Supply Chain, and the aircraft's unstable weight
discussed the lithium-ion battery company which would supply defective batteries to the project
Boeing 787. Which were create a difficult situation for the project as the problem of batteries
was delaying the airplane (Mardani, P., 2022). The carbon fiber technology was also discussed as
a big issue in the case of the project Boeing 787. The company is not able to organize its carbon
fiber which would lead in lacking the aircraft. The company should need to hire effective
employees and engineers who were able to handle the situations like this. The company also
faced issues like an unconventional supply chain which was due to its unorganized and unstable
communication practices (Tu, H., 2022). The company is also facing issues in developing better
and required aircraft center wings, as the engineers facing issues in managing the weight of the

7
wings. This issue is bringing the project in delay as it’s not ready to fly. The company
additionally, faces issues like computer security systems, and many more.

Recommendations:

 The company should need work with McKinsey’s strategic problem-solving model to solve its
problems. It will help the company to overview its all identical processes. This model represents
the problem by determining it by enclosing the problem, gathering the data, designing the
research paradigm, and interpreting the problem data. It also helps the company to maintain its
good relationship with its stakeholders, and also with its suppliers. It would help the client and
other relevant stakeholders of the selected company. This model helps the company widely by
managing teams, clients, and staff. After, that it will present the structure and buy-in it serve as
the recommendation (Gechkova and Kaleeva, 2020).

 The company also needs to work with the 4S model off problem-solving. This will help Boeing
to work effectively to build the company with sustainable high-performance and also helps to
understand the leader’s strengths in the company, it will represent the corporate hypothesis. It
looked like not a good tool for communication but it was very useful in solving complex issues

8
where the hypothesis pyramid focused and also suggest solutions to problems. It will work with
four stages “4s” with its corporate hypothesis in three possible paths: State: In which it will
develop leaders to deliver better sustainable management. Structure: issues identical tree. Solve:
Analyze the issue. Sell: it will focus on the answer, not on the problem solution (Payán‐Sánchez
et al., 2022).

 The company should collaborate with foreign companies to perfectly manufacture its wings
such as Airbus Broughton facilities in the UK, Lockheed Martin, Raytheon Technologies,
Leonardo, and many more (Marszałek and Lis, 2022).
 The joint ventures also helped the company to represent its wings around the world, offering
joint ventures, which helps to build good relations in the business. The company also being
organized joint ventures with other competitors and companies like EnerSys in the US, Concorde
Batteries in the US, Saft from France, Teledyne Battery Products from the US, EaglePicher
Technologies situated in the US, and many more. These mentioned companies helped Boeing
to replace its defective batteries with their batteries and make them workable for its aircraft (Tu,
H., 2022).
 The company also needs to evaluate its Carbon Fibre Technology, which would be organized
with the help of experienced staff. The company overcome this situation of carbon Fibre by
developing and adopting advanced technology to inhale all the carbon practices from the
aircraft.
The main issue identified in the project is that the company engineers were not able to fully
manage their Fibre Technology, which would result in a delay in the aircraft (Allawi et al.,
2020).
 The company also needs to evaluate its supply chain practices by adopting the supply chain
theories like agile manufacturing theory of supply chain, stakeholders’ theory of supply
chain, and lean manufacturing theory of supply chain. The company also needs to adopt
strategies like joint ventures, payback periods, NPV, and many more tactics, to attract more
investors towards the company. Additionally, helped the company to increase its connections
with its suppliers and other international investments too (Schmuck, R., 2021).

9
CONCLUSION
The following report is concluded that the company Boeing, needs to work with McKinsey’s
strategic problem-solving model, which would help the company to better understand its
stakeholders and develop a certain and identical relationship with its suppliers. The company
should continually implement its strategies. The company for its Boeing 787 project used the
communication mix theory, Soviet-Communist Theory, Authoritarian Theory, Libertarian
Theory, Social-Responsibility Theory, and many more which would help the company to
increase its communication with its suppliers and also develop its international communication
(Schmuck, R., 2021). Additionally, the company should use the communication model which
would apply long-term in the company and help in developing its relations with its suppliers for
future collaborations too.
