Math notes

Algebra 31/8/22
- Expressions don`t have = signs
- Equation do have = sign
- Numbers and operator grouped together that show the value of something e.g.,
2X3 is an expression.
(3X) (-2y) (+7) = terms
3X-2y+7 = variables/ pronumerals
3X-2y+7 = constant
3X-2y+7 = coefficients
3X-2y+7 = operators

Unit 1 - Algebra
Statics 18/4/23
- Primary and secondary sources
Primary Sources are immediate, first-hand accounts of a topic, from people who had a
direct connection with it.
A secondary source of information is one that was created later by someone who did
not experience first-hand or participate in the events.
- Raw and processed information
Raw data is data that has not been processed for use yet.
Processed data is when data is collected and translated into usable information.
- Quantitative data and Qualitative data.
Quantitative data is a number.
Qualitative data that uses words to describe it.
- Discrete & continuous data
Discrete data is information that can only take certain values. These values
don't have to be whole numbers (a child might have a shoe size of 3.5) but they
are fixed values – a child cannot have a shoe size of 3.72.
Continuous data- instead of having fixed values we have more accurate number
such as 7.8975785.

Designing questionnaires
Data Handling questionnaires.pptx (sharepoint.com)
- a common method of collecting data for a survey is to use a questionnaire.
Questionnaires take many forms and are carried out by using a variety of
methods.
- The main ways of collecting data are.
1. Face to face
2. By phone
3. By post
4. Via the internet

-  Questionnaires can include:

- yes/no answers.
- tick boxes
- numbered responses
- word responses

- A questionnaire is a set of questions that are used to collect data for a survey.

- This is a biased question. The interviewee might feel pressurised into
saying 'yes'. A better question would be: 'Which football team, if any, do you
support?'
- Do you think maths is:
a very interesting subject
quite an interesting subject?
- This is biased in favour of maths, and it does not cover every possible answer.
Worksheet
A survey was conducted to find out how much people read. The following
question was asked?
How much do read?
0 to 3 3 to 6 7 to 10 11 to 15

Give 2 good reasons why this might not be a good question?

Rewrite the question?

1. A survey to find a class`s favourite meal was conducted. Below is the

question.
What is your favourite meal?
Give potential problem this question poses when collecting results.
2. A year 10 student is conducting a survey on music genres. They are going to
ask the class what their favourite band is. Why might the survey not give
accurate results regarding the public music taste.

3. Level 5-6 question

A driving test centre is designing a questionnaire about how many hours of

driving lesson have been taken by someone who is about to take the test?
Rewrite the question?

How long have you spent on your driving lessons?
