container is full.What is the volume of the container, in cups?

SOLUTIONS
1. Let's assume that the two consecutive integers are x and x+1.
According to the problem, the sum of these two consecutive integers is 25.
Therefore, we can write an equation as:
x + (x+1) = 25
Simplifying and solving for x, we get:
2x + 1 = 25
2x = 24
x = 12
Therefore, the two consecutive integers are 12 and 13.

2.Let the present age of the younger brother be 'x' years.

Then, the present age of the elder brother is 'x + 20' years.
According to the given ratio, we have: (x + 20)/x = 4/3
Cross-multiplying this equation, we get: 3(x + 20) = 4x
Simplifying and solving for 'x', we get: x = 60
So, the present age of the younger brother is 60 years. And, the present age of
the elder brother is 60 + 20 = 80 years.

3. Let Manu's earning per day be x.

Then, Tejas' earning per day will be x + 10.
We know that Tejas earned Rs. 270 in 15 days.
So, Tejas' earning per day can be calculated as follows
Tejas' earning per day = Total earning / Number of days
x + 10 = 270 / 15
x + 10 = 18
x = 18 – 10
x=8
Therefore, Manu's earning per day is Rs. 8.

4. Let's assume the present ages of the two brothers are 4x and 3x, where x is a
constant.
After 6 years, the age of the first brother will be 4x+6 and the age of the second
brother will be 3x+6.
According to the problem, the ratio of their ages after 6 years will be 5:4.
Therefore, we can write an equation as:
(4x+6)/(3x+6) = 5/4
Simplifying and solving for x, we get:
16x + 24 = 15x + 30
x=6
Therefore, the present age of the first brother is 4x = 24 and the present age of
the second brother is 3x = 18.

5. Let's assume that the number of students in Salim Sir's class is "x". We can use
algebraic equations to solve for "x".
According to the problem, Salim Sir has Rs. 8000 to distribute among his
students. If each student gets Rs. 250, then the total amount distributed will be
250x.
We can write this as an equation:
250x = 8000
To solve for "x", we can divide both sides of the equation by 250:
x = 8000/250
x = 32
Therefore, Salim Sir has 32 students in his class.

6.Let's assume the denominator of the original fraction is x. According to the

problem, the numerator is three less than the denominator, which means the
numerator is x-3.
Therefore, the original fraction can be written as (x-3)/x.
If both the numerator and denominator are increased by 2, the new fraction
becomes (x-3+2)/(x+2), which can be simplified to (x-1)/(x+2).
According to the problem, the new fraction is equal to 4/5. Therefore, we can
write an equation as:
(x-1)/(x+2) = 4/5
Simplifying and solving for x, we get:
5x - 5 = 4x + 8
x = 13
Therefore, the original fraction is (x-3)/x, which can be simplified to (13-3)/13,
which is 10/13.

7.To solve the problem, we can let the daughter's age be x, and the mother's age
be 52-x (since the sum of their ages is 52). We know that five years ago, the
mother's age was 4 times that of the daughter's age. So, we can write the
equation:
47 - x = 4(x - 5)
This equation simplifies to:
47 - x = 4x - 20
If we add x to both sides, we get:
47 = 5x - 20
If we add 20 to both sides, we get:
67 = 5x
Finally, if we divide both sides by 5, we get:
x = 13.4
This means that the daughter is approximately 13 years old, and the mother is
approximately 39 years old.

LEVEL 2
1.Solution: Let the amount of money B has be x. Then A has 2x, and C has 2x +
100. According to the problem, the sum of their money is Rs. 1,500, so we can
write the equation:
x + 2x + (2x + 100) = 1500
Simplifying, we get:
5x = 1400
Therefore, x = 280. So B has Rs. 280, A has 2x = 560, and C has 2x + 100 = 660.

2. Let the original speed of the train be 'x' km/h.

Then, the time taken by the train to cover 540 km at this speed is given by:
t = 540/x
If the speed had been 15 km/h more, the new speed would be (x + 15) km/h.
And, the time taken by the train to cover the same distance at this speed would
be 1 hour less than the original time.
So, we have: t - 1 = 540/(x + 15)
Substituting the value of 't' from the first equation,
we get: 540/x - 1 = 540/(x + 15)
Simplifying and solving for 'x',
we get: x = 45
Therefore, the original speed of the train is 45 km/h.

3.. Let's assume that the number of female students in Salim Sir's class is "x". Then
the number of male students is "x+5", because there are 5 more male students
than female students.
The total number of students is the sum of the number of male and female
students:
x + (x+5) = 2x+5
According to the problem, Salim Sir has Rs. 8000 to distribute among his
students. If each male student gets Rs. 300 and each female student gets Rs. 200,
then the total amount distributed will be:
300(x+5) + 200x = 8000
We can simplify this equation by expanding and collecting like terms:
500x + 1500 = 8000
500x = 6500
x = 13
Therefore, there are 13 female students in the class and 18 male students
(because x+5=13+5=18).

4. Let's assume the present age of the son is x years. Therefore, the present age
of the father will be 56-x years.
In 4 years, the age of the son will be x+4 and the age of the father will be (56-
x)+4 = 60-x.
According to the problem, the father will be three times as old as his son in 4
years. Therefore, we can write an equation as:
60-x = 3(x+4)
Simplifying and solving for x, we get:
60-x = 3x + 12 4x = 48 x = 12
Therefore, the present age of the son is x = 12 years and the present age of the
father is 56-x = 44 years.
5..Let the container full of water be 1/8 x.
After 10 cups added, the container is 3/4 full.
x/8 +10=3x/4
⇒ 6x/8 − x/8 =10
⇒ 5x=80
⇒ x=16
Therefore, volume of container in cups is 16.
