These type of Formulas are widely used in the Problem on Ages questions and are
beneficial for solving the question in exams Quickly and Efficiently.
x years ago the age of A was n1 times the age of B, and at present A’s age is n2 times
that of B, then;
A’s current =\frac{\left ( n_{1} -1\right )n_{2}x}{n_{1}-n_{2}}n1−n2(n1−1)n2x years.
and, B’s current age = \frac{\left ( n_{1} -1\right )x}{(n_{1}-n_{2})}(n1−n2)(n1−1)x
years.
Concept 2
The present age of A is n1 times the present age of B. After x years, age of A becomes
n2 times the age of B, then;
A’s current = \frac{\left ( n_{2} -1\right )n_{2}x}{(n_{1}-n_{2})}(n1−n2)(n2−1)n2
x years.
Concept 3
t1 years ago, the age of A was X times the age of B and after t2 years age of A
becomes Y times the age of B, then;
A’s present age =\frac{\left (x)(t_{1}+ t_{2}\right )( y – 1)}{(x-y)} + t_{1} (x−y)(x)
(t1+t2)(y–1)+t1years
Concept 4
The sum of present ages of A and B is X years, t years after, the age of A becomes Y
times the age of B, then;
A’s present age =\frac{xy + t(y-1)}{y +1}y+1xy+t(y−1)years
And B’s present age= \frac{x- t(y-1)}{y+1}y+1x−t(y−1) years
Concept 5
The ratio of the present ages of A and B is p: q and after t years, it becomes r: s, then;
A’s present age = \frac{pt(r-s)}{ps-qr}ps−qrpt(r−s) years.
And, B’s present age = \frac{qt(r-s)}{ps-qr}ps−qrqt(r−s) years
Concept 6
The sum of present ages of A and B is X years, t years ago, the age of A was Y times
the age of B, then;
Present age of A =\frac{xy + t(y-1)}{y+1}y+1xy+t(y−1)years
And, the present age of B = \frac{x + t(y-1)}{y+1}y+1x+t(y−1)years

Age of Umesh will be 4 times the age of Reena in 6 years from today. If ages of Umesh
and Mahesh are 7 times and 6 times the age of Reena respectively, what is present age
of Umesh?
64 years
30 years
48 years
42 years
At present
Age of Umesh = x
after 6 years
X+6=4(y+6)
X+6=4y+24
So
7y+6=4y+24
3y+6=24
3y=18
Y=6
X=7 x 6
=42

11
13.48%
13
59.40%
16.5
14.27%
21
12.84%
Then, ages of all the four children can be defined as a , (a+2), (a+4), (a+6)
Given, a + (a+2) + (a+4) + (a+6) = 40
4a = 40 – 6 – 4 – 2
4a = 28
a=7
6 children are born, each at an interval of 1.5 years. On adding the ages of all the 6
children, we get the sum as 60. How old is the youngest child?
8.5
6.25
Then, six children will be, p, (p+1.5), (p+3), (p+4.5), (p+6), (p+7.5)
6p = 60 – (7.5+6+4.5+3+1.5)
6p =60 – 22.5
p = 6.25

Samantha told her office colleague Monika that when Monika was born, Samantha was
as old as Monika’s present age.” If Samantha’s current age is 36, how old was Monika 4
years ago?
14
12
18
21
Let Monika’s present age be a.

a= 18.
Therefore, if the Monila is 18 years old at present then her age 4 years back will be,
18 - 4 = 14 years
A father said to his daughter Amma, “At the time of your birth, I was double of your
present age.” If the daughter’s age at present is 15 years, identify What the father’s age
5 years later?
41
48
51

30:54
Given, 5 years before Father’s age= Twice Jack’s age.
Now as per the questions, father’s age would be thrice that of his son, 7 years hence.
(2a + 5) +7 = 3 [(a + 5) + 7]
On Solving, we get,
a = 24

48
Let Saif’s age be a, hence his mother’s age= 5a
= (5a+3) = 4(a+3)
= 5a+3 = 4a+12
a=9
If Saif’s age is 9, then mother’s age= 9*5 = 45 years
